Weston loses to pair of Class 5A teams

Talk about a murderers row of games to end the season. It couldn’t be much tougher than to face a pair of Class 5A schools, including the fourth ranked team in Division I among “select” schools, the first two days of the week and finish with the top ranked team in Division V and third ranked team in Division III to end the week.

The hope was that the Wolves could muster a win or two to improve their playoff positioning but if that is to be the case then Weston must be victorious in the second half of the games. That is because the Wolves fell to West Ouachita and Alexandria Sr. High by 11-1 and 10-0 scores on Monday and Tuesday. The losses dropped Weston’s record to 15-13 but didn’t hurt their rankings as the Wolves remain at #9 in Division V.

West Ouachita 11 Weston 1 (Monday): Bryce Zehr reached base three times with two hits and a walk and knocked in Weston’s run while Tayt Culpepper, got a hit, drew a walk and scored the lone run. Sawyer Watkins also got a hit and Jacob Gill got hit by a pitch. Culpepper was saddled with the loss.

ASH 10 Weston 0 (Tuesday): Alexandria Sr. High scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game via the “ten run” rule. The Trojans got 8 hits and took advantage of nine free passes and three Weston errors to run their record to 18-8 on the year while Weston was limited to a pair of Drew Browning base hits and a single each by Tait Henderson and Tayt Culpepper. Cole Tolar and Blaine Graham also drew walks for the Wolves. Sawyer Watkins took the loss in only his third start of the year.
