JHHS Boys, Weston Girls shine at Llewellyn Starks Invitational

After rainstorms washed away the meet on April 9th the sun was out on the rescheduled date of last Tuesday, but nowhere did it shine as bright as on the Jonesboro-Hodge boys and Weston girls track teams.

Competing in the annual Llewellyn Starks Invitations on the newly resurfaced track at Caldwell-Peacock Stadium the Tiger boys team had 12 podium placements (1st, 2nd, 3rd Place) in the 16 events they competed in, including winning a season-best 8 events.

The performance by the Weston girls was even more impressive as after gaining medals in a total of 10 events over the first three meets of the season, the Lady Wolves walked away with 11 in this meet alone. Adding the four second-place finishes the Lady Tigers contributed, JHHS won a total of 16 medals in all while Weston, who also had two seconds and third in the boy’s events, finished with easily a season-best 14 podium places.

Claridy turns in “Elite Performance” at Choudrant Invitational 

On the heels of winning two gold medals at the LLewellyn Starks Invitational on Tuesday, Jalexia Claridy of Weston High repeated the effort by winning the shot put and discus at the Choudrant Invitational on Thursday.

With her 37’3″ effort, Claridy set a new all-time mark in the shot put and became the first Jackson Parish thinclad to earn “Elite Performance” designation this season by Mile Split LA.  

Lexie Millien took second place in the 100 meter hurdles while Raelynn Shell won third place in the Javelin as did the girls 4×200 meter relay team. Juan Gonzalez was the only boys team representative to win a medal, placing third in the shot put. 

Quitman High’s boys and girls had four seconds and four third place finishes combined. Nathan Harvey led the boys  effort by coming in second in both the 110 & 300 meter hurdles. Emma Carter (High Jump) and Kaleigh King in the Pole Vault were the other two silver medal winners. 

King also won third in the 100 meter hurdles, joining Megan Kelley (1600 meters), Taylor Huddleston (1600 meters) and Gage Horton (3200 meter) as bronze medal winners.
