Additions made to Deacons For Defense Park and Civil Rights Trail

Several additions are already in place and more is on the way at the Deacons for Defense Park and Civil Right Trail located along Hwy 167 North in Jonesboro. A drive by finds changes taking place daily as the ultimate plan for the park takes shape.

“It is exciting to see the plans of the park progressing like it is,” said Jonesboro Mayor J. “Spike” Harris. “I am eager for the vision we had to become a reality.”

It is getting closer.

No more does the civil rights trail marker that was recently dedicated sit alone looking over the expanse that has turned what used to be barren ground into a focal point of the community.

Along the winding concrete path, several signs that promote exercise and activity now are strategically posted. What is more the entrance to the park and the large graded area it leads to is receiving an overlay in preparation for the food court that will be housed there.

“The plans are for this to become a “bee-hive” of various activities that our residents can enjoy from outside dining to having a place to exercise,” continued Harris. “It won’t be long now.”
