WJH Baseball “Pinks Out” in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Weston Junior High not only did their part in recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink jerseys in one of their contests this past week, they also gave a field demonstration of what is hoped to be achieved in the fight against the  second leading cause of cancer related deaths.

The Wolves showed they wanted to strike out the malignant disease by combining for 24 K’s and firing a pair of no hitters in games against Simsboro and Castor  while also proving they wanted to hit hard the dreaded disease by scoring a season best total of runs. The  6th and 7th victories of the year kept Weston’s “Fall Ball” season opening winning streak intact.

Weston 14 Simsboro 1: Leyton Younse drove in four runs, hit a pair of doubles and got hits in all three at bats to lead the best offensive onslaught of the year. Dawson Griffin also chipped in by getting two hits, including a triple, scored two runs and knocked in a pair and Bryce Tolar got into the act by scoring three times and getting 2 RBI’s. Kyptin Caskey also drove in two runs and scored one while Remy Kennard hit a double and scored.  Aiden Marsh also scored a run and got an RBI and Colton Otwell, Eric Borders and Lukas Bandy rounded out the scoring by crossing home plate once each.

Weston 6 Castor 0: Eli Henderson and Bryce Tolar struck out 8 Castor batters each and combined on a no-hitter while also contributing offensively by scoring two runs apiece. Dawson Griffin (2 hits, 4 RBI), Kyptin Caskey  (3B, 2 RBI) and Leyton Younse (BB, RS) also stepped up big.

ARC Academy 8 Quitman 7: The locals scored four in the top of the third inning and one more in the fourth but the rally fell one run short as seven runs allowed in the first two innings and five errors was to much to overcome.

Softball

Simsboro pitching put forth a dominating effort over five innings to win a pair of contests by 5-0 and 7-0 scores. The Lady Wolves were unable to get a hit in the first game that went three innings and Lily LaBlance got the only hit for the Lady Wolves in the two inning night cap. The two losses dropped WJH’s record to 4-3 on the year.
