Weston softball dominates Dodson to win season opener

Weston High School opened their 2024 softball season in impressive fashion on Monday as they pounded out 21 hits and every player on the roster scored at least one run in the 24-10 domination of Dodson. 

The Lady Wolves scored 12 in the second inning and 8 more in the third, while adding 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth and final inning as the game was called due to the “10 run rule”. 

It was a complete team effort for second year coach Cecilia Chambliss’s squad  highlighted by Gracie Mudge getting 4 hits in 5 at bats, including a pair of doubles and 3 RBI. Also coming up big was Olivia Marsh, Jaylin Williams, Molly Beaubouef and Jodee Buckalew all getting 3 hits and Hailey Chatham who had a double, triple and 4 RBI. Davynee Bearden and Katy Choate got a hit and scored three  while Keeley Davis scored twice and drove in a pair on a hit and a base on balls. Mudge scattered 6 hits and struck out 9 to take the victory in four innings of work.

Castor 21 Weston 0: Eight runs in the top of the first and 13 more in the second was all Castor would need in their season opener to send Weston to their first defeat of the season and even their record at 1-1. Jaylin Williams got the only hit for the Lady Wolves while Castor capitalized on 11 hits and 12 walks against two Weston hurlers.
