J-HES Hosts Final Saturday School, LEAP Testing Begins Monday

On April 13, 2024, the faculty and staff of Jonesboro-Hodge Elementary held its final LEAP-focused Saturday School for students in Grades 3-5 for the 2023-24 academic year.

The rotations included practice tests in the areas of ELA, Math, and Science, counseling sessions on “Test Anxiety,” and Physical Education. An attendance of roughly 20 students allowed for a small-group setting that ended with a tasty lunch courtesy of Diggidy Dawgs of Jonesboro.

Special thanks to our dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, and bus drivers for making this event possible: Ms. LaJulia Blankenship, Ms. Lauren Bennett, Ms. LaStacia Moore, Ms. Sarah White, Mrs. Vernelle Morgan, Mrs. Rachelle Mason, Mrs. Tristen Bergholtz, Ms. Lynisha Amos, and Ms. Dana Bell for making this session possible.

Jackson Parish Library Board to meet on Monday, April 15th

The Jackson Parish Library Board of Controls will hold their regularly scheduled quarterly meeting on Monday, April 15th. The session will be held in the McBride Room of the Main Branch, located at 614 South Polk Avenue in Jonesboro. 

In addition to the normal business of adopting minutes, financial reports and statistical reports from the first quarter of 2024, board members will review and discuss for possible adoption the following.

Strong Support System

The Chatham Village Council met at its regular meeting on April 9, 2024, with the following present: Mayor Greg Harris, Councilmembers Toni Malone, Sue Proffer and Bernadean James; Laverne Mixon and Mike Wilson were absent.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Harris.
The pledge was led by Council member Toni Malone and prayer was given by Mayor Harris.
Toni Malone motioned, and Bernadean James seconded and was approved by all to accept the minutes as read of the regular meeting held on March 13, 2024.

Craig Stephens with Emergent Enforcement Solutions presented the results of a speed study done for the Village of Chatham. The Council discussed the results and will bring the matter up at the next regular meeting.

Death Notices

David Cope
March 6, 1944 – April 9, 2024

copeDavid Cope, of Shasta Lake, CA, passed away on April 9, 2024. Born on March 6, 1944, in Junction City, AR, David recently turned 80.

He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Mary Cope (Hardison); his daughter Holly Cope-Lynn and son-in-law Jerry Lynn of Grand Coteau, LA; his step-son T.J. Graber of Redding, CA; his grandson, Dylan Cope, of New Orleans, LA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father, David E. Cope, and his mother, Maybell Cope Livingston (Wingfield); his siblings, Don Cope, Corinne Gray, Lyda Burkett, and Linda Cooper; and his step-son, Shawn Graber.

David graduated from Jonesboro Hodge High School in Jonesboro, LA, where he played football. He retired from a life-long career in the oil and gas industry, and in his retirement, he enjoyed watching football, fishing, golfing, and gardening (especially tomatoes).

David will be remembered for his wit and humor and his ability to tell a great story. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

 


BREAKING NEWS! Paradise Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Fire

(report filed at 10:00 am) – Firefighters from virtually every ward in Jackson Parish have responded to a fire at Paradise Funeral Home in Jonesboro in an attempt to extinguish the blaze that began sometime around 9:30 am this morning. 

At present no information has been made available as to how the fire started and there has been no report of injuries. 

Motorists are urged to stay away from the area and take an alternate route as the north bound lane of Hwy 167 and the exit area of Hwy 167 and Beech Springs road is blocked by emergency responder units. 

More information will be presented once made available. 


Turbulent Weather Wreaks Havoc in Jackson Parish on Tuesday

Strong storms caused a scary incident Tuesday evening when a tree toppled onto a passing vehicle traveling on Hwy 4 East in Jonesboro, but thankfully no serious injuries occurred. The incident was just one of several instances where trees were uprooted and fell across roadways and on houses throughout Jackson Parish. 

Reports also indicated that roads in the Ansley, Clay and Eros area were also closed for short periods of time due to trees falling. Minor damage to several houses was also reported.

The large tree, which was located at the intersection of McDonald Street and Hwy 4 East, fell across the highway blocking both lanes for several hours and caused short term power outages in the area as lines were pulled down.

The diligent response by Town of Jonesboro employees, Entergy, Jonesboro Fire Department, Jonesboro Police and the Jackson Parish Police Jury got the power restored and the roadway back open in quick fashion. 

The line of thunderstorms did damage all over northeast Louisiana as well with Entergy reporting  thousands of residents losing power including over 10,000 in Ouachita Parish and over 1,000 people in Lincoln Parish. 

Predictions are for turbulent rainfall and high winds to continue through Wednesday, causing schools to be closed in precaution and motorists being urged to stay off the roads. 


School Board honors Bryan Lay and Lisa Linton for Outstanding Achievement

Bryan Lay of Quitman High School and Lisa Linton, who is employed by the Jackson Parish School District were honored for outstanding achievement by the Jackson Parish School Board during their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday. 

Lay was recognized for winning the LHSAA 2024 Class B Track and Field Indoor State championship in the Pole Vault while Linton received special mention for being named the PCAL Bus Driver of the Year.

In other action board members Dennis Clary, Gerry Mims, Paulette Belton, Rick Barlow, Calvin Waggoner, Wade McBride and Mary Saulters approved the revised 2023-2024 Reopening Plan for Jackson Parish Schools and the revised Jackson Parish Ready to Achieve K-12 Operational Guidance. Ashley Cotten also presented information on the Jackson Parish Strategic Plan.

The panel then agreed to adopt the following recommendations made by the Executive / Finance Committee, which met prior to the meeting that was held at 11:00 am in the Conference Room of the Jackson Parish School District Central Office. 

  1. Pay General Fund, Federal Program, School Food Service, Sales Tax, Special Education, and District Maintenance bills.

  2. Accept low quote of $17,810.10 from Eduporium for the purchase of ten (10) Discover Drones for Jonesboro Hodge High School Ninth Grade Academy, to be paid from ESSER III Incentive funds (pending LDOE approval).

  3. Allow Challenge Island to present a STEM program at Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School, Quitman High School and Weston High School (Grades PK-5), Jonesboro Hodge Middle School (Grades 6-8) at a total cost of $10,923.00, to be paid out of ESSER III EB – $7856.00 and ESSER III Incentive- $3,067.00.

  4. Accept low quote of $12,984.24 from CDW to purchase six (6) Maker Bot printers and filament for Jonesboro Hodge High School Ninth Grade Academy, to be paid out of ESSER III Incentive funds, pending LDOE approval.

  5. Approve monthly payments to Sharon’s Lil Angels Daycare for the 23-24 CCAP – B-3 Seat program based on the number of student found eligible for the slots allocated by the LDOE, to be paid out of the CCAP B-3 state allocation. (Not to exceed the allocation amount of $247,140.00).

  6. Approve payment of $32,081.12 to La. Delta Community College for Dual Enrollment Spring Courses, to be paid from 2023-2024 SCA, Education Excellence, ESSER II Incentive and/or ESSER III EB funds.

  7. Approve the purchase of robotic components and supplies from Vex Robotics (sole source) for Jonesboro Hodge High School 9th Grade Academy at a cost of $24,298.00, to be paid from ESSER III Incentive funds, pending LDOE approval.A motion was made by Gerry Mims, seconded by Calvin Waggoner and carried approving the purchase of five (5) LCD display boards from Howard Technology Solutions at a cost of $15,131.00 for Jonesboro Hodge High School 9th Grade Academy, to be paid out of ESSER III Incentive funds, pending LDOE approval.

  8. Approve the purchase of twenty-one (21) LCD display boards from Howard Technology Solutions at a cost of $59,827.00 for Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School, to be paid from ESSER III Incentive funds, pending LDOE approval.

  9. Accept low quote of $34,483.00 from Hotel and Restaurant Supply to furnish and install nine (9) insulated proofing cabinets – two (2) cabinets each at Jonesboro Hodge High School, Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School, Quitman High School and Weston High School – one (1) at Jonesboro Hodge Middle School, to be paid from School Food Service funds.

  10. Accept low quote of $12,420.00 from StageRight to purchase a Fold and Roll Stage to include stairs and skirt for Weston High School, to be paid from Weston District funds.

  11. Approve the purchase of the Barton Reading System at a cost of $12,719.60 from Bright Solutions for use district wide to address specific reading disabilities, to be paid from ESSER III EB funds.

The following recommendations of the Building / Grounds Committee which also met before the general meeting were then acted on. 

  1. Accept low quote of $39,852.96 from Susie’s Floors by Design Weston High School front foyer halls and computer lab, to be paid from Weston District funds.

  2. Accept low quote of $108,651.00 from Victory Tracks for Track Re-Surface and Re-Stripe at Quitman High School, to be paid from Quitman District funds.

Transportation Committee recommendations followed including:

Approve out of state travel for one (1) teacher, one (1) administrator, and eleven 11) cheerleaders from Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School to travel to Dallas on July 23-26, 2024 to participate in UCA Cheer Camp. Expenses will be paid by parents.

Approve out of state travel for Elsie Flynn, Emma Otwell and Paisley Hainey from Weston High School to attend the Jr. Beta National Convention in Savannah, Georgia, June 9-13, 2024. The Jackson Parish School Board will reimburse for expenses according to policy IFCB – Field Trips and Excursions.

Approve out of state travel for Morgan Cheatwood, Addison Bouges, Katy Cumpton and Bonnie Goss, Advisor from Quitman High School to attend the FBLA nationals in Orlando, Florida, June 25 – July 3, 2024. The Jackson Parish School Board will reimburse for expenses according to policy IFCB – Field Trips and Excursions.

Approve out of state travel for Ma’Riyah Jones, Ethan Johnson, Sa’Tavia Qualls and Chevonda Leonard from Jonesboro Hodge High School to attend the FBLA nationals in Orlando, Florida, June 25 – July 3, 2024. Madison Chaplin named to LSCA East All Star Team

Quitman High School shortstop, Madison Chaplin, has been chosen to play in the Louisiana Softball Coaches Association (LSCA) All-Star games that will take place May 10-11 in Tioga. 

The Northwestern State University signee will be one of 18 senior players and one of two from north Louisiana to play for the East team. As the leadoff batter, Chaplin has helped Quitman compile a sterling  24-4 record and the #1 ranking in LHSAA Division IV among “non-select” schools.

For the season Chaplin is hitting .383 while leading QHS in triples (4), runs scored (43), walks (29) and stolen bases (20). She also has hit 7 doubles and 7 home runs. 


Chamber of Commerce Banquet Celebrates Community Achievements

An enjoyable evening was had by all who attended the 2024 annual Jackson Parish Chamber of Commerce banquet held at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church on Monday, April 1st.

The celebration of community achievements event was a testament to the spirit and dedication within the parish. The night kicked off with a delightful appetizers, setting the stage for an evening filled with camaraderie and recognition.

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a silent auction, adding an element of excitement to the festivities. The highlight of the evening was the distinguished guest speaker, Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. Known for his passion for Louisiana, Lieutenant Governor Nungesser delivered a video presentation highlighting the reasons to love our state.

Awards were presented to Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown and Eric Taylor, the plant manager of WestRock, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the chamber. Their dedication to the betterment of Jackson Parish was applauded by all in attendance.

Karen Tolar, president expressed her appreciation and support of the 24 corporate sponsors which demonstrated a strong commitment to both the chamber and the Parish, showing their dedication to the growth and prosperity of our community.

Special presentations were made to outgoing president Yumeaka Washington thanking her for her leadership during her year as president. Expressing appreciation to Wilda Smith, the Director of the Jackson Parish Chamber was commended for her steadfast leadership and unwavering commitment to the community.

Prep Softball: QHS prepares for postseason as regular season ends

What a way to end the year! Madison Chaplin, Maggie Guyotte, and Cali Deal wrapped up the 2024 regular season in grand fashion by hitting back to back to back “jacks” in their final at bat in Quitman’s 15-4 victory over Class 5A Haughton. 

The contest was the final tune-up for the Lady Wolverines who now look forward to see who they will host in the second round of the Division V playoffs scheduled to begin next week. Pairings are slated to be released on Wednesday, April 10th. By virtue of their #1 ranking, the Lady Wolverines, who will enter the postseason with a 25-4 record will receive a first round bye. 

Chaplin, Guyotte and Deal, the first three batters in the Quitman lineup, combined to get 8 hits in 10 at bats, score 8 runs and drive in 10 to pace the Lady Wolverines to the 4 1/2 inning victory. Taylor Harvey also had a good day at the plate with a hit, two walks, RBI and 3 runs scored. Hallie Kate Pullig, Kinsley Ponder and Karly Huckaby all had an RBI each. Anna Leach scored twice while A.J. Gray and Marley Bell added a run each. Deal improved her record to 15-3 by going the distance for the win. 


A sunny side up lesson in yolklore

I am the shell of a man.

That’s because my insides are mostly eggs.

And that goes for you and you. And you too.

Break us and we bleed yellow.

You don’t think so? I beg to differ. Hang with me and I’ll prove that not since Dean Martin has something been so versatile, so good, and yet, despite a fair amount of fame, still so underappreciated.

Seriously, did somebody say something about an egg? If you did, I’m listening. Eggs get my attention. Were it not for eggs, the world would be a much less happy, less tasteful and less interesting place. What kind of question is “Which came first, the chicken or the … other chicken?”

See? You almost GOTTA have eggs!

It’s been nearly 50 years — 1977 to be eggsact — since the Egg People, that wonderful group of egg enthusiasts who tout this white-shelled miracle of nature, originated “The Incredible Edible Egg” jingle. One of the greats. Its gleeful message is the same now as then: Eggs Rock!

Think of how deeply this tiny food has embedded itself into our culture. There are eggs in cakes, in pie crusts, in brownies, in egg salad and in breads. Eggs help to hold the crust onto its first cousin, the chicken. (Maybe instead of “first cousin” it should be “mother once removed.”)

Eggs are in cookies and creams, in fried rice, and in demand. That’s why the United States production of 75 billion eggs a year is an impressive yet big-picture moderate 10 percent of the world’s supply.

We are an egg society.

Think of this food’s adaptability, if you will. It can be boiled and poached and scrambled and fried. And that’s just at breakfast! What a wonderful thing to wake up to.

It can be served sunny side up, over easy, yellow hard, yellow runny. Omelet, you say? Fine!

It can even be split into either yellow or white. How many everyday foods offer you TWO colors in such a small package? The egg is the fruit of the barnyard.

I could rest my case. But I won’t. Because not only is the egg versatile, it’s good for you. You’ve got 13 essential nutrients in a single egg, the egg publicists tell me, which might be a lie but hey, I’m buying it!, because they know I can’t tell a nutrient from a nutria. But I did grow up around chicken snakes, and not once did I see a sick one.

A large egg contains just 70 calories and has six grams of protein. My sources tell me that this is another “plus” in the “healthy food” column. In other words, an egg as a food is a “good egg.”

See? The word even lends itself to playfulness. You can be a good egg or a bad egg. Some people are egg heads. Some have egg on their face. Or a goose egg on their forehead. Some people put all their eggs in one basket, walk on egg shells, lay an egg, egg others on or protect their nest egg.

“Last one in’s a rotten egg!”

It’s a beautiful word, a beautiful food, and you’ll likely enjoy one today, even if it’s disguised in another food. Which is another reason to love the egg: it’s a simple food of delightful complexity. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Mystery is the egg’s “coop” de gras.

Jackson Parish Watershed Commission provides 2023 Receipts / Expenditures

President / Treasurer, Gary Joynor, recently released a statement as well as a recap of receipts and expenditures for 2023 by the Jackson Parish Watershed Commission. 

“I wanted to give a recap of Receipts & Expenditure’s for 2023 for Jackson Parish Watershed. I’d like to thank each person that gave donations to the watershed as well as thank the Sheriff Department for mowing the spillway and Ebenezer launchs. But mostly I’d like to thank each person that purchased annual boat launch passes and each person that pays the $3.00 daily launch fee. Launch fees are the bulk of our revenue as we do not receive any tax payer money for revenue. I hope you can see in the report that we are not trying to save money, but rather spend it wisely on upkeep of the piers and launches as well as keep good lighting and clean restrooms for public use. But mainly you can visibly see how well kept the launches and piers are kept thanks to you the public for those of you that pay to use them. Future plans this year will be to add lighting to the public pier at Ebenezer park and add bumpers to the all piers at Ebenezer and spillway and restripe Ebenezer parking lot just to name a few things.

Things Looking Up For Turkey Season

There is no way I could ever forget my introduction to hunting wild turkeys. I had
actually tagged along years ago behind Blue Parkman, a veteran turkey hunter from Ruston who had several years of chasing gobblers under his belt. Back then, turkeys were scarce only being found in isolated areas such as the Jackson Bienville wildlife management area where I followed Parkman. The hunt ended without success although I got to hear a turkey gobble for the first time.

It was years later, 1994, that my addiction to turkey hunting began when I accepted the invitation to hunt turkeys in Alabama. I was reluctant at first because I had never turkey hunted and the date of the invitation coincided with bream bedding season here at home. I rather reluctantly accepted the invitation, shot my very first gobbler and I was instantly hooked. Some 20 years later before age and infirmities halted my ability to chase gobblers, I was able to bring down 41 gobblers from around the country, collecting my coveted Grand Slam in the process.

I would love to still be able to hurry across the woods to be sitting within 100 yards of a roosted gobbler before it flew down. Since I can’t, I enjoy talking about them, writing about them and supporting them by my membership in our local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Now that turkey season is kicking off – opening day in Area A this year is April 6 – I
visited with the state’s top wild turkey expert, Cody Cedatol, to get his thoughts on what the turkey situation looks like this year in Louisiana. For the past several years, things have not been quite so rosy as they have been in earlier times.

“Based on all we have been able to tell,” Cedatol began, “things are looking better than they have over the last decade or so. We have had a good hatch two years in a row and we have determined that the gobbler harvest was up again last year so we’re excited about that.”

My next question had to do with the reason or reasons that things are looking better for our state’s turkey population.

“There are at least a couple of reasons,” said Cedatol. “A few years ago, we delayed the opening of turkey season to give gobblers and hens a bit longer to get together and breed and this has resulted in better hatches of young turkeys. Another reason is an environmental one. For the past couple of years, we have had better weather during the nesting and brooding season. Turkeys need a relatively dry period from April to June and that’s what we’ve had and turkeys
have responded.”

Cedatol noted that there were reports of a good population of juvenile males (jakes) last year which means those that carried over will be adult gobblers this season.
I wondered what plans if any were on the drawing board going forward from this year as regards management of wild turkeys.

“We have a proposal before the Wildlife and Fisheries Commission that would prohibit the harvest of jakes except by youth hunters. Lots of hunters have expressed a desire for us to do this and in fact, many private hunting clubs already prohibit the taking of jakes. It’s not a done deal as the proposal is out for public comments and Commission won’t be acting on it until their April meeting,” he said.

Public hearings will take place around the state prior to the meeting giving hunters the opportunity to express opinions as to whether or not the prohibition of taking jakes will become law. Have an opinion? Let the Commission know what you think.

CANEY LAKE – Big chinquapins are starting to bed and taking worms and crickets.
Best bass catches are made fairly shallow on Wacky Worms, Sinko, Bandits and

BLACK BAYOU – Bass are fair to good fishing spinners and jigs around the trees.

LAKE D’ARBONNE – Crappie are good with best catches made in 10-12 foot water on shiners or jigs. Bass are on the banks and hitting soft plastics, jigs and spinners. Catfishing is improving fishing cold worms off the banks. The bream are starting to bed up and hitting crickets and night crawlers. LAKE CLAIBORNE –Crappie are starting to move out to 12 foot water and are hitting shiners and jigs. Bass are best fishing Carolina rigs, spinners and jerk baits around the docks. Stripers are beginning to school in open water. Bream are beginning to bed and worms and crickets are working on them. No report on catfish. Local “thinclads” have one final tune-up before district track and field meets

If weather permits, the remainder of the week promises a busy schedule for local “thinclads” as JHHS, Quitman and Weston High Schools have one final opportunity this Thursday to get ready for the upcoming 2024 district track meets. Jonesboro-Hodge is slated to travel to Winnfield for the Tiger Relays while Quitman and Weston are scheduled to participate in the Choudrant Invitational. 

Local fans will also get the opportunity to see the “stars of tomorrow” in action on Friday as Jonesboro-Hodge Middle School will host their final track meet of the season at Caldwell-Peacock Stadium on the campus of J-H High School. Field events will start at 3:15 pm with track events proceeding around 4:15pm. Admission will be $5 at the gate.

 


“Harold’s Hit”

Harold Lloyd Jenkins was born on September 1, 1933, in Friar’s Point, Mississippi. His great uncle suggested the boy be named after his favorite silent film actor, Harold Lloyd. Harold’s family moved to Helena, Arkansas during World War II.

Everyone realized early on that Harold had talent. He was just 10 years old when he first sang on the radio. Two years later, he formed his first band, the Phillips County Rambles, and they had their own show on radio station KFFA. As a teenager, in addition to his singing, Harold preached at local revivals. He was a star baseball player in high school. After he graduated, the Philadelphia Phillies offered him a contract, but Harold was drafted into the Army. While in the Army, he formed a band called the Cimmarons to entertain other soldiers. Following his stint in the military, the Phillies renewed their offer, but Harold decided to focus on a musical career.

Although he had been performing long before Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, Harold was influenced by Elvis. Harold tried to emulate Elvis’s sound. Harold formed a band called The Rockhousers, and wrote a song with the same title. His talent was such that he was able to record at Sun Studios in Memphis, Elvis’s recording studio, but none of The Rockhousers’ records were considered good enough to be released at the time.

In early 1958, the Rockhousers were touring across Ontario, Canada trying to build up a following. During an intermission at a show at the Flamingo Lounge in Hamilton, Canada, drummer Jack Nance scribbled out some lyrics. He showed the lyrics to Harold who helped Jack Nance complete the song. Shortly thereafter, Harold and his band recorded a demo of this song and a few others. They sent the demos to their manager, Don Seat. Don sent the demos to MGM Records, and they set up a recording session for Harold. The other members of The Rockhousers were not included. On May 7, 1958, Harold went to the studio where some of the best musicians of the era waited. The Jordanaires, Elvis’s backup singers, provided backing vocals. Floyd Cramer was on piano. Grady Martin played guitar, and Floyd “Lightnin” Chance played the double bass. During the session, two songs were chosen for release. In those days, a single came out on a 45 rpm record. The “A” side of the record was the expected hit and the “B” side was usually considered less commercial. The “A” side of Harold’s first single was a song called “I’ll Try.” The “B” side was a version of the song drummer Jack Nance and Harold had written.

Harold’s single was released on July 14, 1958, but “I’ll Try” fell flat with the listening public. The record should have drifted into obscurity along with Harold’s career. Then, a DJ in Columbus, Ohio decided to play the B-side on the air. Listeners called the radio station with questions and to request that it be played again and again. Listeners wanted to know who was singing the song. Many people concluded that it was Elvis singing the song under an alias. Remember, the backing voices on the songs were provided by the Jordanaires, Elvis’s backup singers. This was an intentional marketing ploy by MGM. They released no picture or biography of Harold to the press, as they normally would have done with a newcomer. Harold said later, “I actually did try my best to sing like Elvis.” My voice and style sounded like Elvis, and the only thing that identified me was that little throaty growl. I remember when I recorded [the song], producer Jim Vienneau came into the studio and asked me what that little thing was that I had done with my voice. That was what really saved the day, yet I never meant to growl at all. I was afraid they might not like it and I wondered if it should come out. ‘No way!’ replied Vienneau. ‘Keep it in there!’ I agreed because it was the first time somebody had complimented me on that particular thing . . . In the end, it was the identifying feature that separated me distinctly from Elvis.”

The song was the only number 1 “pop single” of Harold’s career, but Harold was certainly not a one hit wonder. He eventually had 55 number 1 hit singles. To put that into perspective, The Beatles had 20 number 1 singles, Elvis had 18, and Michael Jackson had 13. The only performer in history to have more number 1 hits was George Strait with 60. Harold Loyd Jenkins is a name you may not recognize or remember, which is exactly why Harold’s manager convinced him to adopt a more memorable stage name with star quality. “It’s Only Make Believe” was the first hit from Harold Loyd Jenkins who chose his stage name by pointing at two random points on a map, Conway, Arkansas, and Twitty, Texas.
