Jonesboro-Hodge High School has announced that Fred Hearn III will be the new boys basketball head coach for the 2024-25 school year. The grandson of former Jackson Parish teacher and principal, Fred Hearn, who will also teach US History, comes to JHHS with a decorated resume of 177 wins and 111 losses. Included are playoff appearances in all but one of his 15 year career that includes stops at Grambling Lab (now recognized as Lincoln Prep), where he led the team to a state semi-final appearance and Homer High School.
For Hearn III the move is deeply gratifying.
“This is a dream job for me,” said Hearn who confessed that when he was offered the opportunity that it brought tears to his eyes. “I can’t tell you how much it means to have the opportunity to be the head coach at Jonesboro-Hodge. My family has so much history here and this is like coming full circle as I was on Coach Tew’s staff when we went to the semifinals.”
The head coaching position came open when Allen Tew, who had patrolled the sidelines at JHHS for the past 15 years left to take over the Winnfield High School head boys basketball coaching position.
