Jackson Parish School Board received $4,000.00 in grant funds from the Louisiana Division of the Arts—Office of Cultural Development. The grant was written to help enhance the current start-up of a Band Program designed for Jonesboro-Hodge Middle School and Jonesboro-Hodge High School.
Mr. Trey Porchay has been the Band Director in Jackson Parish since 2023. He is a graduate of Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Music Education (K-12). He was Jackson Parish High School New Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024. He currently teaches Band, Marching Band and Beginning Choir where his focus is for students to play instruments, read music and march in formation.
Grant funds were used to purchase musical materials, supplies and software. These purchased items will be used to ensure instruments have the needed parts so that they will function properly while students are in the learning process and during performances.
This arts program is supported in part by an Arts Education grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
