
The Jackson Parish School Board held its regularly scheduled meeting in the conference room of the Jackson Parish School District Central Office on June 1st. Prior to the meeting, the Executive Finance Committee and Transportation Committee held sessions.
An exceedingly large crowd was also at the meeting in celebration of the three LHSAA Class B state championship spring sports teams from Quitman High School (softball, boys track, girls track) and Ciara Gray of Jonesboro-Hodge High School, who was named the Most Valuable Performer of the 2026 Class A state track and field meet, being recognized for their outstanding achievements.
With Mary Saulters, Paulette Belton, Gerry Mims, and Dennis Clary in attendance and Calvin Waggoner and Rick Barlow absent, the board then considered and acted on the following additional agenda items.
(1) The Ruston Daily Leader was chosen as the Official Journal for Jackson Parish School Board.
(2) Payment approved for the General Fund, Federal Program, School Food Service, Sales Tax, Special Education, and District Maintenance bills.
(3) Payment authorized to Edgear, Inc. in the amount of $71,337.85 for 2026-2027 Software and Support for all schools, to be paid from the 2026-2027 General Fund.
(4) Payment approved to Imagine Learning in the amount of $55,935.00 for Jonesboro Hodge High School, Quitman High School, and Weston High School, to be paid from the 2026-2027 General Fund.
(5) Payment approved to the National Institute for Excellence in Teacher (NIET) in the amount of $91,875.00 for training and support to Jonesboro Hodge Elementary and Jonesboro
Hodge High School during the 2026-2027 school year, to be paid from CLSD, pending LDOE approval.
(6) Payment approved to Risk Services of Louisiana for the renewal of the 2026-2027 Insurance in the amount of $549,674.30: Property and Casualty $295,323.00, General Liability $185,096.00, Cyber $11,425.00, Excess Worker’s Comp – 2 years $50,007.00, Self-Insured Surety Bond $4,500.00, and Student Accident & Catastrophic $3,323.30, to be paid from the General Fund.
(7) Out-of-state travel approved for the Weston High School Girls Basketball team and Coaches, Matthew Herring and Rachel Waggoner, to attend the UWF Basketball Camp June 14-17, 2026, in Pensacola, Florida. Weston Basketball will be responsible for all expenses.
In the final action before adjournment, Reva Murphy and Shontae Mims were recognized as visitors, with both commenting on the closing of Jonesboro Hodge Middle School.
