Mitchell/Porter win 2026 Piney Shootout at Jackson Parish Golf Course

2026 Piney Shootout Champions!
Brad Porter (l), Peyton Mitchell (r)

Individually, Peyton Mitchell and Brad Porter are considered two of the best golfers at the Jackson Parish Golf Course. When combined, they are virtually impossible to beat on their home course. That proved true on Saturday, when the pair topped 9 other two-man teams in the championship flight of the 2026 Piney Shootout.

Competed in a unique format, the Piney Shootout is played 9 holes as a “scramble”, where both players hit from the best shot all the way through the finish of a hol, then, for 9 more holes playing “shamble” style, where both players tee off and then play their own ball from the best tee shot, and ending with 9 holes of 4 ball, where players play their own ball all the way through the hole.

Mitchell and Porter fired a round of 30-30-32 for a 16-under-par total of 92, finishing one better than Pete Simonelli and Eli Walker, who shot a 93 after scoring 31-29-33. Tommy Cruse and Dwayne “Snook” Harrel came in third with rounds of 30-32-35 for a total score of 97.

Trey Howard and Josh Stringer won the first flight with a 102 total, one better than the team of Leigh Cathey and Bobby Taylor who claimed second on a score card playoff over Mike Simonelli and Preston Tuberville after both finished with a 103 total.

Steve Nugent and Chad Kelley claimed the Second Flight title on a score card playoff with Parker Bailey and C.J. Barton after both teams shot 109, one better than third place finisher Phillip Leonard and George Booth who also cashed in as result of yet another scorecard playoff with Gene Posey and Nathan Kennedy.
