The Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame held its 17th annual Induction Ceremony banquet on Saturday, October 3rd in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Entering into the “hallowed hall” were Steve Treadway, Joey Pender, Lowell Miize, and Shelby Green, with Bil DeCou being presented the prestigous Meritorius Service Award.
Also recognized were the 2026 High School Athletes of the Year, selected by select faculty and representatives of Jonesboro-Hodge High School, Quitman High School, and Weston High School. Those being honored were Livi Otwell and Drew Browning of Weston High, Brayden Smith and Magie Guyotte from Quitman, and Dakota Knox and Ciera Gray from Jonesboro-Hodge.
The inclusion of the Fab Five” brings the number of Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame members to 94 and those receiving the special Meritorous Awards to seven. Created from a vision held by Mr. Henry Kimp of a venue to recognize the talent and sportsmanship that has been a hallmark of Jackson Parish, the hall of fame recognizes athletes, coaches and administrators who have lived or worked in Jackson Parish and who have made a great impact in the arena of sports.
In 2008 the first meeting of a loosely formed board of the Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame was held in Bobby Culpepper’s office with Henry Kimp, Bobby Culpepper, Leslie Thompson, Nathaniel Belton and Raymond Jeffress present. It was declared that the primary function of the Hall of Fame would be to create a memorial so that future generations can see the individuals and their accomplishments as they have represented Jackson Parish.
