Mary Virginia Runyon
August 23, 1926 – July 12, 2022
Mary V. Runyon was a life-long resident of Jonesboro, LA and member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, LA. She attended a post high school business school in Shreveport before starting her working career at the Louisiana State Welfare office in Jonesboro. She next work for Continental Can Company in Hodge before retiring as payroll supervisor at Stone Container after a dedicated career of 32 years.
She remained active in her retirement years traveling extensively across the US with her husband, Henry, in their RV. These included trips to visit her son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Tucson, AZ and more than 50 annual trips to Navy Seebee reunions. On some of these trips, her best friend Joan Sudduth and grandchildren accompanied her and her Henry. On one trip in particular, her grandchildren have fond memories exploring southern California with her.
When she was not traveling, Mary V, as she was known to her friends, enjoyed baking and crafting, especially during the holidays when she would make Christmas candies and could be found crafting Christmas ornaments with her grandchildren in their youth.
Mrs. Runyon’s legacy of love of family and community will extend long after her passing. It can be seen in her homemade ornaments continuing to hang on Christmas trees in the homes of her family and friends. Some of her famous dishes, such as her delicious spicy, jalapeno corn dish, will show up on the tables during holiday meals for years to come.
One of the biggest parts of her legacy that will continue long after her passing is her love of travel. Indeed, she played a big part instilling a sense of adventure in her grandchildren. Every trip made out of state or overseas they take with their own families will honor Mary V’s memory.
Finally, her impact will also continue to be honored through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her sons Johnny Runyon and H. Glen Runyon, daughter-in-law Sharon Runyon, grandchildren and their spouses Ray and Angela Runyon and Natalie Runyon and Gary Vizioli and great grandchildren Annaliese, Lucas, Elliot, Dominick and Carlo She loved being with family especially her grandchildren.
