There is an old saying in competition that when certain teams really stands out over others that they were like “men among boys.” After the final weigh-in of the first event of the year of the second annual ARKLA Team Tournament Trail held on Saturday, February 25th on Lake Claiborne, that could be said for a select few teams with one exception.
When referring to the third place team it was “BOYS AMONG MEN!“
There is no disrespect meant to the the pair of teens by calling them boys. Obviously when it comes to “casting and catching,” Landin Chatham who represents Weston High School on the Northeast Louisiana High School Anglers (NELAHSA) Tour and partner Hagan Carter (West Ouachita High School) are skilled well beyond their years.
Yet while most their age are lucky if they get to compete in a prep tourney that gives away trophies and plaques, this pair stepped up to the plate to fish for some “cabbage.” The didn’t come home hungry!
For the record, Chatham and Carter landed five fish that weighed a total of 17.05 lbs. including a 7.50 lb. lunker that was the 2nd largest bass caught in the tourney. Their third place finish earned them $1,200.00 or $600.00 each.
The ARKLA Team Tournament Trail consist of five events. The next tourney will be on March 25th on Lake Chicot, located on the east side of Lake Village, Arkansas. At 20 miles long, this is the largest natural lake in Arkansas and the largest oxbow lake in North America.
Future tourney’s are also slated for Cross Lake in Caddo Parish, the Ouachita River and at the combined location of Felsenthal-Ouachita River. Championship qualifiers will battle it out on Lake D’Arbonne in mid-October. At each tourney anglers will compete for a guaranteed $5,000.00 first prize and 100% payback of all money gained through entry fees.

In February 1914, May Pierstorff’s parents prepared for their five-year-old daughter, May, to visit her grandmother. May and her parents lived in Lewiston, Idaho. May’s grandmother lived about 70 miles away in Grangeville, Idaho. In the 1910s, automobiles had not yet become the predominant form of transportation in Idaho. Most people traveled on or were pulled by horses if they were traveling within a short distance from home. May’s parents decided that May would travel to and from her grandparents’ home by train due to the distance of the trip. For some reason, probably the cost of train tickets, May’s parents could not accompany her on the trip.
The cost of May’s ticket was more than the family could afford. May’s parents looked for a loophole. Surely, they thought, they could purchase a discount ticket due to May’s age, but the railroad offered no such discount. Maybe, they thought, they could get a discount due to May’s weight, which was 48 ½ pounds. They got lucky. This was the loophole they had been looking for. May was just a pound and a half below the 50-pound weight limit.
On February 19, May’s parents pinned something on May’s coat and dropped her off at the train station in Lewiston, Idaho for the 70-mile trip. They watched as May boarded the train and, at the proper time, the train chugged out of the station. When the train arrived at the Grangeville station, no one was waiting to pick May up. An employee named Leonard Mochel delivered the five-year-old to her grandmother’s home.
When money is tight, all of us look for clever ways to save money. May’s parents were no exception. May traveled from Lewiston to Grangeville… as a parcel in the train’s mail car to save money. The thing May’s parents attached to May’s coat was 53 cents in parcel post stamps. The employee who delivered May to her grandmother’s home was the mail clerk. May’s parents mailed May to her grandmother’s home. When their visit was over, May’s grandmother sent her back to her parents in the same manner, through the mail.

It’s easy to remove my writing mistakes; I simply backspace or edit. Poof, it’s gone.
My work in elementary school was written in pencil; I remember wearing down the erasers when correcting errors. Teachers in junior and high schools wanted all written assignments written with pens. It was much more difficult to remove mistakes with an eraser.
I think sometimes people erase and erase until they tear holes in their papers.
Sins are much more serious than mathematical, spelling or grammar mistakes.
Yet, they can be removed.
Jesus washes sins away!
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 ESV).”
We confess; God forgives.
The Lord doesn’t need an eraser; He blots out our sins.
“I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins (Isaiah 43:25 ESV).”
They say that an elephant never forgets.
I don’t know about that. I do know what removed my sins.
Nothing but the Blood by Robert Lowry/Public Domain [Verses 1 & 2]
‘What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Refrain:
Oh! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow; No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my pardon, this I see, Nothing but the blood of Jesus; For my cleansing this my plea, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.’
