Ciara Gray continues to dominate in girls track and field for JHHS

JHHS’s Ciara Gray won three firsts and a second for the 3rd straight meet

A star is being born! For the second week in a row, multi talented girls track and field athlete, Ciara Gray of Jonesboro-Hodge High School has dominated the competition. 

On March 7th, Gray won three gold medals and a silver in the Lady Tigers opening meet of the year in Shreveport. Then on March 21st, she did it again at the Mangham Relays. This past Thursday, at the Haynesville Invitational run at the Lakeside High School track in Sibley, Gray won three events and placed second in another for the third straight time, winning the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and the triple jump while also coming in second in the long jump. 

Sanaa Tatum and Heavenly Candler also had a good day for the Lady Tigers with Tatum coming in third place in both the 200 meter dash and long jump and Candler finishing third in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Zu’Wy’Neshya Johsnon also scored points by finishing fifth in the 300 meter hurdles. The girls 4×200 meter relay team also finished in fourth place and the 4×100 meter relay squad came in fifth.  

In boys competition, DaMarious Burns paced the Tigers by scoring in four events, finishing in second place in the 300 meter hurdles, third place in the triple jump and fifth place in both the 200 meter dash and long jump. Christian McGuire also scored in two events, coming in 3rd in the 100 meter dash and 4th in the 200 meters. Kalep Atkins grabbed 4th in the long jump and Michael Malone ended in 6th place in the shot put to round out the individual scoring for the Tigers. All four relay teams scored as well with the 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800 squads finishing in fourth place respectively and the 4×200 relay team coming in 5th place.

Combined the boys and girls teams scored in 19 events in the meet that saw teams from 16 schools across north Louisiana and southern Arkansas compete.
