The sting of losing two games to parish and district rival Weston was replaced with the thrill of beating a pair of top ten teams in the Division V rankings, giving Quitman a much needed boost heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. By beating #6 Holden 3-1 and #9 Stanely 5-4 the Wolverines improved to 12-8 overall and climbed to #5 in Division V among “non-select” schools.

Quitman 3 Holden 1: Riley Duck stroked a double to score Logan Ponder, who had walked, and then came home himself when a fly ball hit by Pete Simonelli was misplayed to give Quitman all the runs they would need. That is because Ian Tilley turned in his finest performance of the year on the mound, limiting Holden to just five singles and one unearned run. John Raegan Hasley had two hits for Quitman while Hudson Pullig added the other run.

Quitman 5 Stanley 4: With Logan Ponder standing on third base with one out and the scored tied 4-4 in the 8th inning, QHS head coach Joe Lockhart just wanted Riley Duck to get the ball out of the infield. Mission Accomplished! After working the count full at 3-2, Duck hit a fly ball to center field to plate Ponder and give Quitman the lead then took to the mound to earn the win. Singles by John Raegan Hasley, Braden Hobbs, and Logan Ponder coupled with free passes to Ian Tilley and Hudson Pullig and an error made on a ball hit by Duck gave Quitman a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Stanley would come back to score four in the top of the third setting the stage for Duck to take the mound in relief where he threw 5. 1 innings of one hit ball and striking out six with no walks.
