Hazard Buoys Placed on Caney Lake

If you have been cruising along Caney Lake since Tuesday night and wondered what all the flashing lights on the water was, have no fear. You do need to pay attention to the places the lights were seen though.

Thanks to a cooperative endeavor agreement with Jackson Parish Watershed Commission (JPWC) and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), fishing on Caney Lake at night got much safer. That is due to 10 “hazard buoys” being placed at locations on the lake where there is shallow areas with stumpy points. Each buoy that will come on at dark and go off at daylight should be visible for 2.5 nautical miles.

According to JPWC President Gary Joyner, more buoys are expected to be deployed on the lake in the future to help make Caney Lake as safe as possible for boaters / anglers.
