Back in May it was announced that Laura Arnold, recent graduate of Quitman High School, had won 1st place in the 5th District Congressional Art Contest. On July 3rd, her winning creation was hung in the Halls of Congress at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.to be displayed for the next year alongside winners from other districts across the country.

Arnold won the 5th District Competition by virtue of her tremendously creative artwork entitled “Chicken Bits”, which was an illustration of a hen made from blue, orange, and brown collage pieces.

“I look forward to the Congressional Art Competition each year to see all of the incredible talent we have in our communities,” said 5th District Congresswoman Julia Letlow. “Lauren’s piece beautifully captures the unique array of agriculture we are surrounded by in the Fifth District, and showcases a level of artistic skill and creativity that I can only wish to have. I enjoy walking by Lauren’s piece each time I am headed to the House floor for votes, and I will continue to show it off to each tour group that comes up for a visit.”
