
(Monroe, LA) – United Way of Northeast Louisiana is actively recruiting volunteers to read with local 2nd and 3rd grade students through its READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. initiative.
READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. is a United Way community initiative aimed at helping local 2nd and 3rd graders improve their reading and writing skills. Launched in 2012, this initiative partners trained volunteers with students in 20 local schools to enhance their literacy skills.
WHY DOES READING MATTER?
Research shows that children reading below grade level by 3rd grade are four times less likely to graduate high school.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Become a Volunteer Reader, Pen Friend, or both
Volunteer from October through March
HOW DO I VOLUNTEER?
Sign up at unitedwaynela.org/readlearnsucceed (must be 17 years old or older)
Attend virtual training (15 minutes)
Commit to reading with or writing to assigned students once a month
Attend an Ending Celebration
