Quitman and Weston to play in Dodson Junior High Basketball Tournament

The same six schools, including those from Quitman and Weston, that played in the season opening Weston Tournament a week will go at it again this Thursday and Friday, August 22-23, at the Dodson Junior High Basketball Tournament.

The bracket has the junior high girls and boys teams from Quitman playing their first round games against Castor at 4:00 pm and 4:45 pm on Thursday with Weston playing at the same times on Friday after drawing a bye. If Quitman wins their tourney opener in either the girls or boys brackets they will play Weston. 

Tuesday Game Recaps

The boys and girls junior high basketball teams from both Weston and Quitman were in action on Tuesday with Weston sweeping Dodson by 39-6 and 33-18 scores and Quitman split with Choudrant with the boys winning 53-25 and the girls losing by a 26-15 margin.  

Boys

Quitman 53 Choudrant 25: Hayden Seymore scored 14 of his team high 15 points and Kaleb Maxwell scored all 11 of his points in the first half as Quitman exploded to a 35-16 lead. Eli Jackson also reached “double digits” in scoring chipping in with 14 and Aiden Reed added eight as the Wolverines improved to 4-0 on the year. 

Weston 33 Dodson 18: With Colt Guyotte scoring five of his six points in the contest and Leyton Younse adding four of his team high nine, Weston jumped out to a 13-5 first quarter lead and never looked back. The victory improved the Wolves record to 3-1 on the early season. Eli Henderson, Colton Otwell, Lukas Bandy and Malachi Harris all pitched in with four points each. Bryce Tolar also tallied two. Braddock Chandler led Dodson with 8 points followed with Ryder Horne and Levi Hanson scoring three each. Brody Tucker and Jayden Atkins added two points apiece. 

Girls

Weston 39 Dodson 6: The Lady Wolves defense didn’t allow a point until the second half and Tessa Reeves scored ten to lead a balanced scoring attack that saw eleven players score in all. Rachel Bandy scored six and Ada-Claire Tidwell, Teegan Hall, and Kate Keiffer all finished with four points while Addison Faulkner, Donnia Spence, Zaniyah Saulsberry, Braelynn Turner and Brileigh Fair added two points each to help Weston improve to 2-1 on the year. Alaska Williams, Arlaina Grey and Jaida Boothe each scored two for Dodson.  

Choudrant 26 Quitman 15: The Lady Wolverines took a 4-1 first quarter lead but managed only 11 points the rest of the way to drop their second straight to open the season. London Burks scored eight to lead QJH followed by Sophia Kleibert with four points. Lily Duke tallied two and Averi Hasley hit a free throw to round out the scoring.
