J-HMS Coaching Staff Pleased With Effort in Scrimmage Against Haynesville

Jonesboro-Hodge Middle School opened their 2024 football season this past Tuesday, August 20th, when they hosted Haynesville Junior High in a controlled scrimmage.

The contest was played under a format of the first team offense and defense for both schools running a set of 15 plays from the line of scrimmage, followed by the second team from each school doing the same. There was no kickoffs or punts in the contest and no official score was kept.

“The guys were really excited about finally getting an opportunity to play against another team,” said J-HMS head coach Max Martinez. “Overall we were very pleased with their effort.”

Highlighting the action was J-HMS forcing five fumbles and recovering four of them. Included was a what would have been a defensive touchdown scored by Raylon Bradford.

“I thought our defense played exceptionally well,” continued Martinez. “Naturally their are things on both sides of the ball that we need to improve on but we showed we have the potential to have a good season.”

Martinez also gave special mention to Jaden McNeil, Greg Hendricks, Tyrese Martin,  and Kodan Atkins for their play.

“We had several players who made an impact but these four really stood out,” said Martinez.

Tigers of the Week

The J-HMS Coaching Staff has selected Tyrese Martin and Jasen McNeil as Co-Tigers of the Week. Both were chosen for their outstanding play in the scrimmage against Haynesville.

“Both young men played incredibly hard and physical in Tuesday’s scrimmage against Haynesville and did a great job setting the edge. The pair combined for several tackles for a loss and each forced a turnover,” said J-HMS Head Coach Max Martinez
