The administration and staff of Jonesboro-Hodge High School recognizes three JHHS students that has shown outstanding capability and taken a giant step forward in preparing for their future.
This past week Sierra Bond, Zaniya Wyatt, and Teairra Burns passed their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) test putting them in position to further their chosen career opportunity.
A Certified Nursing Assistant helps provide essential support to patients and nurses. CNA’s, also referred to as nurse aides, patient care technicians, or nursing assistants are often the main caregivers in nursing and residential care facilities, and they perform a variety of tasks, including:
Patient care: Bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and turning patients
Medical care: Checking vital signs, taking care of wounds, and assisting with some medical procedures
Documentation: Recording patient information, food and liquid intake, and health concerns
Other tasks: Cleaning rooms and bed linens, stocking supplies, answering patient calls, and transporting patients
CNAs are not classified as nurses, but their role can be a good starting point for many different nursing careers. The certification process for CNAs is relatively short, and students can complete the required 50 hours of classroom training in as little as 5–6 weeks. They must also complete at least 100 hours of supervised clinical training.
