Jackson Parish votes Republican and approves Fire Propositions

National prognosticators predicted a tight race between the Republican and Democratic presidential hopefuls. That wasn’t the case in Jackson Parish. Area voters overwhelmingly chose Donald Trump over Kamala Harris by a resounding 5,291 – 1,852 (73% – 26%) count on a day that saw 73.2% of the parish population cast their ballots. U.S. 4th District Congressional candidate Mike Johnson also took Jackson Parish by a landslide garnering 5,475 votes compared to 960 for Joshua Morott.

Voters statewide agreed with Trump and Johnson as well. The former President crushed Harris in Louisiana by a 60-38% margin while the Shreveport resident earned a return trip to congress by swamping his fellow Republican challenger by a 86%-14% margin. Both races saw an over 60% turnout.

Louisiana voters also approved the proposed constitutional amendment (Act 408) that provides relative federal proceeds from alternative energy production with 73% voting YES and 27% saying NO.

Both Fire Protection District Propositions Pass

Jackson Parish also approved both propositions that involved the Jonesboro and Quitman Fire Districts. Jonesboro Fire District #1 got the renewal of the $72.00 parcel fee for 10 years it asked for as voters approved the request by a 538 – 200 margin. The Quitman Fire Protection District #1 also came away victorious in their desire to establish a 12 mill referendum for the next 10 years getting 620 YEA votes compared to 348 NAY votes in the election that saw the highest turnout of all races with 81.3% of voters casting their ballots.
