A Jonesboro City Councilman was arrested after getting into an altercation with a town employee on Wednesday, Nov. 14th. Charged with two counts of simple battery was Devin Flowers.
Jonesboro Mayor J. “Spike” Harris released the following statement:
“The Office of the Mayor confirms that City Councilman Devin Flowers was arrested on two counts of simple battery against a town employee. As the Mayor of Jonesboro, I want to reaffirm this administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for all employees. Harassment, intimidation, or any form of physical harm directed toward our employees is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Public officials are entrusted to serve the community with integrity and professionalism, and any actions that violate this trust or jeopardize the safety of others are a direct affront to the principles we uphold. Mr. Flowers’ actions, including threatening employees with incarceration without probable cause, were conducted outside the scope of his duties as a councilman and are deeply troubling.
We remind all members of the public that no one is above the law, and accountability is essential in preserving trust within our community. This administration remains committed to fostering an environment of respect, fairness, and due process. We will continue to cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities as this matter is addressed through the legal system.”
Dr. J. Spike Harris, Jonesboro Mayor
