Melba Shows Thrift, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 7, 2024.
Melba was a woman of unwavering faith and boundless compassion who spent her life as a living testament to God’s love; her smile a reflection of the light of Christ she carried within.
For 58 years, she was the devoted wife of Rev. Stanley Thrift, a loving partner in life and ministry. Together, they built a legacy of faith and service, touching countless lives with their steadfast love for God and each other.
Melba’s life was one of selflessness and grace. She was a source of love, blessing and encouragement to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, William O. “Dub” Shows, mother, Annie Mae Moore and son, Donald Jeffrey “Jeff” Gaines.
Melba is survived by her husband, Rev. Stanley Thrift; her daughter Marti Vasquez and husband Charles; grandchildren, Bethany Noble, Jacob and Blake Gaines, Natalie Vasquez, Marcus Vasquez and Andrew Bivona; and great-grandchildren, Lilah Noble, Ava, Isabella and Abram Gaines. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Anne Miller, Deborah Minyard and Sherry Campbell, and numerous nieces & nephews.
She will be deeply missed by her family, church family, and countless friends who were touched by her spirit. Melba’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of those she loved.

Funeral services for Melba will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, December 13, 2024, at Victory Life Church in Ruston, LA. Visitation will be held prior to the service for the family at 10:00 AM and visitors from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM; Interment will follow at Gayla Traina Memorial Cemetery in Jonesboro, LA.
