On the Trail with Pack 523

“Spring Adventure 2025”

Jonesboro Scout Pack 523 wrapped up February by celebrating a landmark event: 115 years of scouting! This celebration not only commemorates the vision and founding of scouts by Sir Robert Baden-Powell in 1910, but it also marks a new chapter in our history, namely, a rebranding. Effective February 8, the Boy Scouts of America program is now officially known as Scouting America. According to the official Scouting America statement, this name change “reflects our evolution into a unified, forward-thinking movement dedicated to unity, progress, and community.”

Pack 523 held a party for scouts and family members with nachos, birthday cake, and a visit from Houma-based magician David LeBoeuf, who not only delighted the audience, but also taught scouts how to do 2 illusion tricks. Everyone agreed that the highlight of the show was when Mr. LeBoeuf pulled a live goldfish from a Goldfish crackers box!

Once the party was over, it was time to get back to usual scout business. Pack 523 joined many other packs from our area at Camp TL James for Spring Adventures, a weekend of camping and outdoor activities such as archery, rock climbing, and first aid. An especially fun addition to the weekend was a pirate-themed treasure hunt. Our Pack also represented well in the cast iron cook-off, bringing home 1st place in the savory category and 2nd in the sweet division.

As we enter into a new era of scouting, Jonesboro’s Pack 523 is ready. Our scouts and leaders already embody the Scouting America core mission: preparing young people for life through leadership, resilience, and environmental stewardship. We hope you’ll join us!
