Veterans Day was celebrated nationwide on Tuesday, November 11th, in annual recognition of those who have served America in the pursuit of freedom. Below is an Ode penned to Veterans from a local person who wishes to remain anonymous but has given their time and love for the town of Jonesboro and Jackson Parish. 

Veterans Day, thanks

We are thankful for our dads—
From World War I to Vietnam—
Who fought for home and country,
And made it safely back to us.

We pray for those who did not return,
Whose lives were given for our peace,
Whose courage bought our freedom,
Whose love still guards our land.

Let us remember, on this day,
The anthem’s song, the flag’s proud wave,
And give our thanks with grateful hearts
For all who sacrificed for us
