
The National Weather Service in Shreveport, LA has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Jackson Parish, from Friday, January 23rd thru Sunday, January 25th. According to the notice, possible heavy accumulations of mixed wintry precipitation are expected across east Texas, north Louisiana, and south Arkansas.
Residents should be on alert for power outages and tree damage due to the ice, and travel could be limited to near impossible in certain areas. Hazardous conditions could impact all commutes into Monday after precipitation has ended due to refreezing ice on roadways.
Persons should consider delaying all travel during this time period. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets, and extra clothing. Also, take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that
would help you survive in case you become stranded.

Suggestions to stay safe during winter weather include:
(1) Prepare your home to keep out the cold with insulation, caulking, and weather stripping.
(2) Keep pipes from freezing by allowing indoor faucets to drip and wrapping exterior pipes and faucets.
(3) Install and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors with battery backups.
(4) Gather supplies in case you need to stay home for several days without power.
(5) Keep in mind each person’s specific needs, including medication.
(6) Remember the needs of your pets.
(7) Have extra batteries for radios and flashlights.
(8) If you own a generator, make sure it is in working order.
