Rachel Shively Qualifies to Run for Jackson Parish Clerk of Court

Rachel Shively

(PAID CONTENT)

On February 11th, I officially qualified to run for Jackson Parish Clerk of Court. For the past 10 years, I have proudly served the citizens of Jackson Parish as a dedicated employee of the Clerk’s Office. During that time, I have worked closely with the court system, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and members of the public in both civil and criminal matters. I have seen firsthand how vital the Clerk of Court’s Office is to the integrity and efficiency of our justice system.

Through my years of experience, I appreciate and understand the significance of the Clerk’s role. The Clerk of Court is more than a title; it is a position of trust, responsibility, accuracy, and accountability. The work requires attention to detail, professionalism, confidentiality, and a deep respect for the law and the people we serve. These are qualities I have demonstrated every day throughout my years at the Clerk’s Office.

I know what the job demands are because I have worked alongside our former Clerk, Laura Culpepper, for 10 years. I understand the procedures, the expectations, and the importance of keeping our office running smoothly and efficiently.

My heart is overwhelmed with gratitude for all the support that has been shown over the last month. Thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, and prayed for me along the way! I am excited for the journey ahead!

If elected as your Clerk of Court, I will bring the same strong work ethic, professionalism, and integrity that I have upheld throughout my years at the Clerk’s Office. I will work hard for this parish, protect the integrity of the office, and serve our parish with the dedication and respect it deserves.

I would be honored to earn your support and your vote on May 16th.

Prep Baseball: JHHS opens season on Wednesday, WHS and QHS win 3 straight

Jonesboro-Hodge is scheduled to open its season on Wednesday, February 18th, with a double-header at Woodlawn – Shreveport after having its first three games of the year postponed, while both Quitman and Weston have the rest of the week off.

After both WHS and QHS reeled off three victories in a row over the past five days, Weston holds a 3-1 record and a #5 ranking in the “way too early” Class B power ratings, while Quitman is at 3-3 for the season and is ranked #11 overall.

Weston 7 Mangham 3 (February 12): Colton Blundell went 2/2, scored twice, and drove in 3 with the Wolves first home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning that put the finishing touches on a four-run rally that broke a 3-3 tie against the Division IV foe. Weston garnered 8 hits on the day, led by 3 from leadoff batter Drew Browning, singles by Liam Weaver and Kolt Keiffer, and a double from Dawson Griffin. Browning got the win with a complete game, 7 inning effort where he struck out six.

Weston 14 Ouachita Parish 2 (February 13): The Wolves pounded out 7 hits, four that went for extra bases, and took advantage of 19 free passes issued by four Ouachita Parish pitchers, including having six reach base after being hit by a pitch. Colton Blundell continued to swing the “big stick”, smashing a pair of triples, scoring a pair of runs, and knocking in an early-season team best 5 RBI. Jase Borders and Drew Browing also had big games with each stroking a double and scoring 4 and 3 runs respectively. Kyptin Caskey chipped in with 2 runs scored while Kolt Keiffer, Beaux Oliver, and Dawson Griffin all crossed home plate to round out the scoring.

St. Mary’s 8 Quitman 5 (February 13): A three-run rally in the top of the 6th inning wasn’t enough to overcome an 8-2 deficit against their foe from Natchitoches in the Wolverines opening game of the Many tournament. Hudson Pullig, Maddox Duck and Conner Moak, who had Quitman’s only extra base hit with a double, all had two hits each. Tucker Barnett and Kase West, who had 2 RBI’s, also got a hit for the Wolverines, while Asher Burns scored twice.

Quitman 6 Zwolle 3 (February 14): The Wolverines blasted out 12 hits and scored in five of their 7 at bats to get their first win of the season. Kase West (2-2B, 3 RS, 2 SB) and Maddox Duck (2B, RBI, RS) led the offensive onslaught with three hits each while Cail King added a pair of singles, scored a run and knocked one in. Conner Moak got a hit and scored a run, while both Tucker Barnett and Zach Smudricks added a single each.

Quitman 2 Ebarb 1 (February 14): Asher Rhodes hit a fly ball to right field that scored Tucker Newton for the “walk-off” victory in the bottom of the seventh inning. After both teams were unable to score over the first six frames, Ebarb scored one in the top half of the 7th, setting up the late game heroics that started when Maddox Duck drew a walk, Newton reached on an error that tied the game up, and Cail King stroked a single leading to the final blow that gave Quitman their second victory of the day. Kace West and Zach Smudricks combined for a four-hit, one-run effort while striking out nine.

Quitman 13 Choudrant 11 (February 16): Going from a pitchers’ duel to a slugfest, the Wolverines scored twice in the top of the 10th inning to break an 11-11 tie and take the thrilling victory at Pat Patterson Park on the campus of Louisiana Tech. The winning rally started with Maddox Duck (2B, 2 RS, RBI, hitting the last of his three hits followed by a triple from Kace West, who posted a monster day of 4 hits, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Conner Moak 2 RBI, RS) then hit a sacrifice grounder for the final run. Hudson Pullig, who scored 2 runs early, got the win by shutting down Choudrant over the final two innings. Maddox Duck also had a big game with three hits, including a double and scoring twice, while Tucker Newton chipped in with a double, single, 2 RBI, 2 steals, and a run scored, and Tucker Barnett got two hits, scored two runs, knocked one in, and stole a base. Hudson Pullig scored twice and had an RBI while Cail King knocked a run in and scored one. Asher Rhodes also scored a run.

Weston 11 Beekman Charter 0 (February 17): Jase Borders and Colton Blundell combined to limit Beekman-Charter, coached by Quitman High alum Todd Ford, to just one hit and no runs while striking out 9 in the five-inning game called early by the “mercy rule”. The Wolves stayed hot at the plate with 10 hits that included five doubles. Kyptin Caskey (2 RBI) had three of the hits and one of the two baggers, while Colton Blundell (RBI, RS) and Ty Henderson (2-2B, RBI) had two hits apiece. Drew Browing roped a double, knocked in 3 and scored twice while Dawson Griffin and Beaux Oliver scored a pair of runs each. The “Border Boys”, Eric (2B) and Jase, also scored a run each.

Parkway 13 Quitman 4 (February 17): The Division I opponent was simply too strong as Parkway used 5 extra base hits to post 10 runs in the first three innings and drop the Wolverines to 3-3 on the season. Hudson Pullig, Maddox Duck, and Kase West all stroked doubles for Quitman and got 5 of the Wolverines 7 hits on the day. Tucker Newton and Tucker Barnett also hit a single each.

JPSD “Who We Are Wednesday” program recognizes Brandi Hasley as Staff Standout

In an effort to honor the outstanding educators who toil tirelessly to give the students enrolled in the Jackson Parish school system the best education possible, the Jackson Parish School District (JPSD) is pleased to continue the weekly educator recognition program entitled “Who We Are Wednesday.”

Each Wednesday, one of the faculty members of the JPSD will be recognized for their tremendous commitment, dedication, and excellence in the classroom that helps our local youth prepare for their future endeavors. This week, the JPSD recognizes Brandi Hasley, an 8th-grade math teacher at Quitman High School, as “Staff Standout.”

Celebrating 10 years in education this year—all of them spent serving students in Jackson Parish schools, Brandi began her career with two years at Jonesboro-Hodge Middle School and is now in her eighth year at QHS, where she continues to make a lasting impact.

One of her proudest moments came this past school year when her students averaged mastery on the LEAP assessment, earning Mrs. Hasley a Highly Effective teacher rating—a goal she worked tirelessly toward for both herself and her students. Brandi believes her growth as a teacher is rooted in the very students she serves, inspired by their resilience, work ethic, and determination to overcome challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Brandi credits Paula Williams as the educator who impacted her life the most. Early in her career, Paula took her in, offered guidance and encouragement, and helped her find her footing as a teacher—support Brandi says made all the difference in her journey.

Outside of school, Brandi spends much of her time supporting her children’s hobbies. She also enjoys working in the yard, caring for their many animals, and painting whenever she can find a quiet moment.

Mrs. Hasley’s commitment truly reflects who we are at Jackson Parish Schools!

Please join the Jackson Parish School District in celebrating Brandi Hasley being selected as “Staff Standout” and the lasting impact she continues to make on students across Jackson Parish Schools!

Matthew “Matt” Reed Named 2025 Lincoln Parish Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

Matt Reed (l) shown receiving plaque as 2025 Lincoln Parish Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

Ruston Police Department Officer Matthew Reed has been honored as the 2025 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Ruston Kiwanis Club. The resident of Weston, LA, was presented the award at the Lincoln Parish Chamber of Commerce Banquet on February 13th.

“This prestigious recognition reflects Officer Reed’s outstanding dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving the citizens of our community. His hard work and service exemplify the values of excellence, integrity, and leadership in law enforcement.” – Ruston Police Department Administration

The 2018 graduate of Jonesboro-Hodge High School began his career in law enforcement at the Jackson Parish Correctional Center before a first stint with the Ruston Police Department (RPD) from December 14, 2020, to January 15, 2022. From there, Reed began serving the residents of Jackson Parish as a Deputy with the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he stayed until mid-December 2024, before going back to the Ruston Police Department on December 22, 2024

“I am greatly honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Reed. “I am blessed to work for Chief Eric Watson and with all the investigators and fellow officers of the Ruston Police Department, who have been instrumental in helping me grow as an officer.”

Reed also made a point to recognize former Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown, current Sheriff Brent Barnett, Chief Investigator Steven Watts, and fellow JPSO Deputies.

“I was very fortunate to receive invaluable training from Sheriff Brown and Brent Barnett, who was Chief Deputy at the time, as well as Steven Watts, as they took me under their wing and taught me the correct way to be a law enforcement officer,” continued Reed. “It was also great to work alongside and learn from a great group of fellow Deputies at the JPSO.”

Most of all, Reed wanted to thank his mother, Kimberly, and father, Travis Reed, who has made a career in law enforcement and is the Chief of Police for the Village of Hodge, LA.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today, were it not for the great upbringing I received from my parents,” concluded Reed. “They taught me not only great values to live by, but growing up as the son of a law enforcement officer showed me how important it is to respect the law and gave me the desire to be of service to others.”

Statement by the Kiwanis Club of Ruston

Officer Matthew Reed is a dedicated and highly respected member of the Ruston Police Department, whose professionalism, initiatve and commitment to service exemplify the very best of law enforcement.

Over the past year, Officer Reed has consistently demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication to both his department and the citizens he serves, setting a standard of excellence that extends well beyond the call of duty.

In 2025, Officer Reed distinguished himself through proactive, self-initiated enforcement efforts while serving in the Directed Patrol Unit and the Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) Task Force. During this time, he was responsible for 82 arrests and responded to 197 calls for service, all the while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor and a positive attitude.

Known for his tactical skill and strong focus on officer safety, Officer Reed approaches every situation with precision, preparation, and sound judgment.

Officer Reed also serves as a Field Training Officer, where he plays a critical role in mentoring and developing new officers. His ability to communicate effectively – both with fellow officers and with members of the public – has earned him widespread respect.

He regularly employs innovative communication techniques to build cooperation, gather information, and foster trust within the community.

Humble, dependable, and deeply committed to community-oriented policing, Officer Reed has become a valued resource within his department. His work ethic, leadership, and dedication to public safety make him a deserving recipient of the Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year honor.

The all-day event will bring together motorcycle riders, barbecue teams, outdoor sportsmen, vendors, and families for a cause that provides critical air transportation for patients in medical need.

One of the highlights of the day will be the Don Bernard Memorial Poker Run, which will begin at 3 State Harley-Davidson in Bossier City before riders make their way to Hall Summit. Motorcycles, cars, Jeeps, and clubs are all welcome to participate, honoring Bernard’s legacy while supporting the life-saving mission of Pilots for Patients.

Also on the schedule is a BBQ Cook-Off, featuring a non-traditional two-meat competition with half chicken and ribs. Teams will compete for bragging rights and prizes, with an entry fee of $150. Smoke will be in the air as pits fire up for what organizers expect to be a competitive and crowd-pleasing cook-off.

Outdoor excitement continues with a Wild Hog Live Catch Tournament, offering 40 award buckles and action throughout the day. The tournament is expected to draw participants from across the region.

In addition to the main events, attendees can enjoy a silent auction, raffles, vendors, concessions, and a variety of family-friendly activities, making the day accessible for all ages.

The event will take place at Hall Summit Community Center & Park, located at 1170 First Street in Hall Summit.

All proceeds from the day will go directly to Pilots for Patients, a nonprofit organization that coordinates free air transportation for patients facing serious medical challenges.

Remember This? “No Fees Involved”

In April 1964, Walter and Betty Roberts opened the Actors and Writers Workshop in Atlanta, Georgia, “to provide younger talent in all fields with an opportunity to develop and showcase their talents, and to encourage an interest and participation in theater arts among young people, especially high school students.”

Walter and Betty met nine years earlier during the casting of a play. Walter and Better were cast as husband and wife who bitterly hated each other, but in real life, it was love at first sight. Three days after they met, Walter proposed and Betty instantly accepted. As soon as the tour ended, they eloped.

They worked in theater together until they decided to form their own production company. The A&W Workshop guided the young actors and writers by hosting various performances based on their talents. In celebration of William Shakespeare’s 400th birthday, they selected for their first touring production, “Othello.”

Walter directed and played the part of the jealous Moor who killed the tragic Desdemona, who was played by Betty. Since it was a new venture with little capital, “Othello” was presented in modern dress. Walter had an orchestra, which included three musicians from the local Briarcliff High School, prerecord the music for the production. The announcement invited “Artists wishing to associate with the group [to] apply by letter. No fees are involved.”

In 1965, Coretta King called the A&W Workshop and asked if her nine-year-old daughter Yolanda could join the troupe. At just eight years old, Yolanda had written her first play, but she had been turned away from other theater groups because they did not accept black students.

Betty, who thought talent was colorblind, told Coretta, “Sure. Come on over.” Yolanda was welcomed into the A&W Workshop and was regularly cast as the lead female in productions. By April 1966, Yolanda was one of two assistant directors of the company. She was just 10 years old at the time. Walter and Betty became close friends with Coretta and her husband, Martin.

In the following year, 1967, Betty was pregnant with her second child. Although the A&W Workshop had a full tour schedule, it was struggling financially. In June, the young performers opened the summer season with “Joan of Arc,” followed by “Little Plays for Little People,” “Green Pastures,” and “Once Upon a Mattress.”

In September 1967, the A&W Workshop began its fall season and advertised that although it had already begun, they were still accepting applications for membership. Walter and Betty were in a financial slump and needed more students.

On October 28, 1967, Walter and Betty welcomed their second child, a daughter, into the world. It was a happy occasion, mostly. Walter, Betty, and their son, Eric, were overjoyed with the new addition to their family, but Walter and Betty worried about the looming hospital bill, which they were unable to afford.

When Yolanda’s parents learned about their financial difficulty, they remembered when Walter and Betty had accepted their daughter when everyone else turned her away.

Yolanda’s parents, Coretta Scott King and her husband, civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., paid the full hospital bill for Walter and Betty. You know Walter and Betty’s daughter. Her name is Julia Roberts.

Prep Basketball Recap: Three area teams win district, seven in postseason

Quitman High School girls and boys teams are the 2025-26 District 1B Champions

The 2025-26 LHSAA basketball regular season has drawn to a close with three area teams claiming district championships and seven of the eight teams in the Jackson Parish Journal coverage area moving on to the postseason, and one coming up just short despite a tremendous late-season run in their respective divisions and classes. Overall, the final tally for Jackson Parish schools, Jonesboro-Hodge, Quitman, Weston, and neighboring Saline was 133 wins and 104 losses, with the four girls teams compiling a 72-48 record and the boys checking in with a 61-56 mark. Included were both Quitman teams and the Saline boys winning at least 20 games, with the Weston and Saline girls coming up just short with 19 and 18 wins, respectively.

Quitman High girls and boys win District 1B Titles

The Quitman High School girls and boys basketball teams are the 2025-26 District 1B champions. Both squads won the titles in undefeated fashion by winning two games in two days this past Thursday and Friday.

By beating Providence Classical Academy and Castor, the QHS boys end district play at 5-0 and enter the final week of the regular season with a sparkling 23-4 overall record, and maintain their #3 ranking in the Class B power ratings. The Lady Wolverines also won five games without a loss in district play and now stand at 21-7 overall and have moved up to a #6 power ranking.

The district title was a first outright for head coach Michael Black, who has led his team to a 20-plus win season for a fourth consecutive season during his six-year tenure as the Wolverines head coach. For Kyle Leach, the longest tenured head coach in Jackson Parish, now in his 26th season, with all but four being at QHS, the back-to-back district titles were a fifth overall and 4th in the last 6 years.

Quitman 74 PCA 28 (boys): A concerted offensive team effort and suffocating defense that held PCA to single digits in every quarter was too much for the first-time district foes to contend with. Five players scored within four points of each other, with Shane Reed leading the way with 14 points while also grabbing a game-best 8 rebounds. Brayden Martin chipped in with 13 points, followed by Abel Leach and Kaleb Maxwell, who set a new career high in scoring, checking in with 12 points each. Taden Thomas was the fifth to reach “double digits,” finishing with 10 points.

Quitman 58 PCA 49 (girls): After spotting the pesky visitors from Bossier Citya 16-11 first quarter lead, a new career high 34 points by Anna Claire Leach, that included a season tying six 3-pointers, lifted the Lady Wolverines to victory. Hallie Kate Pullig was next with 9 points, while Allie Robertson added six. Kalisa Hall also came up big by scoring 4 points and pulling down a season-tieing best 9 rebounds. Kinsley Ponder and Emma Walker, who also had 6 boards, tallied 2 points, with London Burks adding a free throw to round out the scoring.

Quitman 78 Castor 59 (boys): The Wolverines stormed out of the locker room in the second half to take a 29-10 third-quarter advantage and secure the district title. The “terrific trio” of Brayden Martin, Brayden Smith, and Taden Thomas led the way with Martin scoring 23 and both Smith and Thomas checking in with 20 points and 7 rebounds each. Shane Reed added six points while Asher Schultz scored four and also pulled down a team-high tying 7 boards. Abel Leach and Kaleb Maxwell chipped in with 3 and 2 points, respectively.

Quitman 52 Castor 36 (girls): Allie Robertson saved her best for the last game of the regular season by pouring in a new career high 22 points to pace QHS to the district 1B title. The Lady Wolverines forced 29 turnovers while committing only 7 with Anna Claire Leach accounting for a team best 7 steals adding 15 points. Emma Walker chipped in with 6 and Kinsley Ponder tallied 3 points while Hallie Kate Pullig, Toby Borland, and Kalisa Hall, who led the Lady Wolverines with 6 rebounds, all scored 2 points each.

Lady Tigers Earn Postseason Berth

After starting the season with a 1-7 record, the JHHS girls rallied to a 14-17 overall record and secured a second consecutive postseason berth in head coach Shan Jackson’s third year at the helm with a #17 ranking in Division IV among “non-select” schools. JHHS also finished with an impressive 4-3 record in a very strong District 1-1A that included a #3 and #4 ranked team.

Cedar Creek 68 JHHS 47 (Thursday) A 38-11 disadvantage at the half was too much to overcome against the 4th-ranked team in Division IV among “select” schools. Nesha Johnson scored 19 to lead the Lady Tigers in scoring, while Sanaa Tatum added 13 points. Freshman Samone Mallard chipped in with 8, and Jalenya Jackson tallied with 3 points. Jakhorielle Lard also made a free throw.

JHHS 60 Haynesville 26 (Friday): Neesha Johnson, Samone Mallard, and Sanaa Tatum scored 18, 17, and 16 points, respectively, to lead the Lady Tigers to their highest scoring total in the new year. Derryn Osborne finished with four while both Khori Lard and Jalenya Jackson made a basket each, and Carmon Livingston added a free throw to round out the scoring for JHHS.

JHHS Boys Close Strong to Secure Winning District Season

Jonesboro-Hodge beat Cedar Creek and Haynesville in back-to-back nights this Thursday and Friday to finish district play with a winning record for the first time since the 2021-22 season. Under second-year coach Fred Hearne, the youthful Tigers made a tremendous late-season rally to win their last four games and earn a 4-3 mark in District 1-1A play and improve to 8-21 overall.

JHHS 66 Cedar Creek 63 (Thursday): King Campbell nailed a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points of his team’s high 22 points in the decisive second quarter, which JHHS won by a 21-12 margin that lifted the Tigers to victory over their neighboring parish foe. Dylan Hayes chipped in with 17 points, and Channing Gray Jr. added 11 while Kodan Atkins scored 7. Lon’trevious Burns finished with 5, and both Jameon Jefferson and Jayce Wright made a basket each.

JHHS 53 Haynesville 45 (Friday): The Tigers outscored Haynesville 15-2 in the third quarter to earn their fourth consecutive victory. Dylan Hayes and Lon’Trevious Burns scored 16 and 13 points, respectively, to pave the way offensively for JHHS, who handed Haynesville just their 4th loss in 15 games. Channing Gray Jr. also reached “double digits” with 12 points, while Kiing Campbell added 8 and Kodan Atkins finished with 4 points to round out the scoring for JHHS.

Weston girls to host first round playoff game

After winning 6 of their last 7 games to finish with a 19-11 record in Matt Herring’s first year at the helm, the Lady Wolves ended the regular season with a #14 ranking and will host a first-round Class B playoff game.

Castor 53 Weston 46 (Thursday) A tremendous effort by freshman Rachel Bandy, who led the Lady Wolves with 15 points and 9 rebounds, was overshadowed by WHS seeing their six-game winning streak come to an end and their hope for a 20-win season thwarted. Carly Jo Griffin and Kate Keiffer also had good nights with 13 and 10 points each, while Ada Claire Tidwell finished with five, and Carlynn Waters made a three-pointer on the night that saw Weston struggle from the field to make only 16 of 61 shots for a 26% shooting average.

Wolves snare final postseason slot in Class B

Despite losing 5 of their last 6 games and finishing 0-5 in District 1B play, Weston returns to the postseason for the first time since the 2021-22 season by claiming the #20 and final spot in the Class B playoff bracket.

Castor 69 Weston 48 (Thursday): Abram Toms equaled a career high in scoring with 19 points but it wasn’t enough as Castor won all four quarters to take the methodical victory. Brody Tidwell also reached “double digits” in scoring with 10 while Ty Henderson chipped in with 6 points. Colton Otwell tallied three and Eli Henderson, Cason Conn, Gunner Younse, Malachi Harris and A.J. Woodard all scored two points each.

Saline boys grab 20-win season

At the end of 2025, the Bobcats were sitting with a 9-9 record. In head coach Klint Robinson’s 12th season at the helm, Saline has compiled an 11-2 record to claim a 20-win season and, more importantly, a #4 ranking in the Class C power ratings, ensuring SHS, providing they win, home games all the way to the state tournament.

Saline 76 Summerfield 43 (Friday): The Bobcats secured second place in the uber-tough District 1C, which had three teams ranked in the top 6 of Class C, by beating waltzing past Summerfield, the only team in the district that didn’t win 20 or more games this season. As has been the case all season, the “dynamic duo” of Eli Ferguson and Gavon Dailey, both of whom passed the career 1000 point scoring barrier earlier this season, led the Bobcats in scoring with 20 and 19 points respectively. Elijah Calloway checked in with 11 points, followed by Conner Roberts with 7 and Braydon Robinson who had six points. Jackson Bougues finished with five while Jay Nash, Hayden Laborde, Hayden Jackson and Ja’Marion Malone all made a basket each.

Saline Girls Claim District 1C title

Under the tutelage of Chris Toms, the Lady Bobcats won the District 1C title with a perfect 3-0 record by beating Summerfield 34-21 in a winner-take-all battle. With their 5th victory in a row and 8th in the last 9 games, Saline finishes the regular season with an 18-13 overall record and a #7 ranking in Class C, ensuring a first-round bye and a second-round home game in the upcoming postseason.

Jared Louviere becomes first ever FFA Blue Jacket Award Recipient from Quitman High

Jared Louviere

Jarod Louviere has become the first person in Quitman High School history to earn an FFA Blue Jacket. Louviere received the prestigious award on February 9th from Louisiana State FFA President Owen Kelly.

“We are so proud to see a Wolverine representing Quitman High School and Louisiana FFA so well!” – Quitman High School Administration

For FFA members, blue corduroy jackets are more than just part of the organization’s official dress. They’re a sign of prestige associated with the youth agriculture and leadership program and a connection to a decades-long history.

Each year, 20 FFA representatives across the state are chosen to receive a blue jacket through the  Margaret Mayeux Blue Jacket Program, which has provided the iconic garments every year since 2014. Recipients were selected through an application process that included writing an essay describing what FFA and the corduroy jacket mean to them.
