Prep Softball: Ponder Provides the Power to Lift Quitman over Division II Grant

Kinsley Ponder smashed a two-run home run in the first inning in Quitman’s victory over Division II Grant High

Whether it is from behind the plate where she positions herself as catcher or in the batters box as the clean up batter for Quitman High School, Kinsley Ponder has become an important cog in the drive for “three peat’.

OnTuesday, Ponder got Quitman off to a fast start by blasting the first pitch she saw over the left field fence for her first career home that scored Hallie Kate Pullig, who had doubled on the previous pitch.

Quitman would add three more runs in the fifth inning with two outs when Amelia Staggs got hit by a pitch and Charleigh Newton reached on an error. Briley Bowers and Maggie Guyotte followed with consecutive singles before Hallie Pullig drove in the third run of the inning with her second double of the game.

With the victory, Quitman improves to 6-3 on the year and climbs to the #2 spot in the Class B rankings. Grant fell to 9-6 overall while dropping to #13 in Division II power ratings among “non-select” schools.
