Jackson Parish Recreation Board to open bids for new Expo Hall on Monday

Anyone who is 30 years old or older in Jackson Parish will remember the days when there used to be an annual rodeo held in at the Fairgrounds in Jonesboro. It was one of the most exciting weeks of the year as dozens of locals competed in the events and gave performances in front of hundreds who flocked to the arena each and every night.

After nearly two decades of being without, Jackson Parish now looks to be in line to have their rodeo once again. Not only that, many other activities and events that require a large, open air facility can now be planned.

It is still a little while yet before the vision becomes a reality but the Jackson Parish Recreation Board is expected to get the proverbial ball rolling this Monday, February 26th. That is when at their monthly meeting that will be held at 6:00 pm in the conference room of the JPRD Administrative Board office.

Highlighting the agenda will be the opening of bids for the construction of the planned Expo Hall to be built at the JPRD Sports Complex, located on Hwy 4 east of Jonesboro.

“This board has worked diligently for many months to get us to this point,” said JPRD Director Tommy Smith. “It has been a long time in coming and I am excited to see this step being taken.”
