Roll On! JP10U Softball All-Stars Smash Two Straight Foes at State Tourney

After the Jackson Parish 10U girls All-Star team outscored their opponents by a 39-1 margin to win the Little League District 8 championship it gave hope that the locals would have a chance at doing well at the state tournament.

Have a chance?  They are dominating there too!

The local contingent is now 2-0 in the seven-team tournament having easily dispatching Vidalia 20-0 on Friday and following that up with an 18-0 pasting of Lake Charles on Saturday.

Vidalia and Lake Charles both stayed alive for only three at bats. The sum total of JP10U’s All Star season so far shows the locals outscoring their opponents by a whopping  77-1 margin. As a team Jackson Parish is hitting .545 over the five games and in the two games so far at the state tourney they are doing even better, checking in with a .595 team average.

Pitching wise, Ryan Wyatt has put on a display for the ages, having won five straight games without giving up a single earned run and striking out 38 in just 16 innings for an incredible average of 2.375 K’s per inning. In state tourney play, Wyatt has yet to give up a hit or a run and has struck out 12 batters in just five innings of work.

Talk about getting it done!

Jackson Parish will now play Sterlington, the team they beat 11-0 and 16-1 in District 8 play, in the finals of the winners bracket on Monday, July 15th. The contest is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm on Field 6 of the St. Julien Park Sports Complex, located at 701 St. Nazaire Road in Broussard.

Brelaina Hall, Kate Keiffer and Charlee Mauthe contributed singles and Hannah Aldy, Brooklyn Keiffer, Ryleigh McCormick, Scarlett Parks, Elliot Savage, Lizzie Sullivan and Emma Gray all either walked or got hit by a pitch as JP8U sent 18 batters to the plate.

Jackson Parish 18 Lake Charles 0: The way it was done was a little different but the result was the same. Another impressive victory for JP10U. Instead of opening the game with an offensive onslaught in this one, Jackson Parish scored four in the first, five in the second and then ended the contest by plating nine runs in the third and final frame.

Ryan Wyatt made quick work of LC by striking out the side in the top of the first.  Hannah Aldy and Ryleigh McCormick to hit back to back singles with one out and Wyatt, Emma Gray, Brelaina Hall and Scarlett Parks all either walked or got hit by a pitch setting the stage for Charlee Mauthe to get the third hit of the inning that gave Jackson Parish a 4-0 lead.

Once again, Wyatt struck out the side, this time in just 12 pitches. Brooklyn Keiffer opened the bottom of the second with a walk and after an out was made, Elliot Savage reached on an error.  Kate Keiffer followed with a double and Aldy hit an inside the park three run homer to up the lead to 8-0. McCormick then reached on an error, took second on a passed ball and scored after a ground out and another miscue by the Lake Charles catcher.

Wyatt struck out the first two Lake Charles batters, giving her 8 K’s in the game and coaxed a ground out to record another 1-2-3 inning setting the stage for the nine run outburst that ended the game via the “mercy rule.”

Hall, Presley Carpenter and Gray all hit triples to supply the catalyst for the scoring barrage with McCormick, Mauthe and Wyatt chipping in with singles. Parks and Sullivan got hit by pitches and Kate Keiffer and Aldy coaxed walks.
