The Jackson Parish Recreation Department Golf Club played host to the seventh, annual Piney Woods 3-Man Scramble Championship this past Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11. Fifty teams from as far away as Shreveport, Alexandria, Bastrop, and virtually every town and city in between, descended on the course to shoot for close to $20,000.00 in payouts, one of the largest on the amateur tournament circuit in north Louisiana.

In the end it was locals Brad Porter, Peyton Mitchell and Dwayne “Snook” Harrell who claimed the Championship Flight and corresponding $3000.00 first prize by firing an incredible two-day score of 107, a whopping 37 strokes under par. Winning second place and a total of $1500.00 with a score of 114 was the three man team of Lance McGuire, Gavin Neatherland and J.J. Culpepper with Tim Wesson, Scott Sils and Bob Wallace coming in at 115 to take third and earn a collective $600.00.

Winning the First Flight in a scorecard playoff with a score of 21 under par (123) and receiving the same winners share was Derek Oulette, Trey Owens and Chris Andrews with Holt Martin, Connor Wyly and Peyton Rogers coming in second place. Trey Howard, Zack Sweeney and Brandon Hall came in third after shooting 125 and topping three other teams in a playoff.

Riche Stewart, Jeff McBride and Ricky McBride took Second Flight honors through yet another scorecard playoff over Ethan Eddington, Logan Colbek and Reagan Kaufman after both shot 129. Another playoff saw Houston Fortenberry, Ridge Creech and Jonathon Washam get third place over three other teams after all finished with a score of 130.

The three Guinn’s (Gerald, Hogan, Daryl) beat Mike Simonelli, Wayne Hay and Ray Walsworth for the Third Flight title on a scorecard playoff after both teams came in with a total of 133. Bruce Thomas, Shane Rollins and Dusty Flower grabbed third by taking a scorecard playoff over two other teams.

Adding to the excitement was Brad Porter carding his 5th hole in one in his golfing career and 86 year old, Eddie Langston, making his first ever ace on Saturday.
