What better way to introduce a new season in than by playing your closest neighboring school and long time rival? That is exactly what Jackson Parish High Schools form Quitman and Weston this this past Friday when they tipped off the 2024-25 LHSAA prep basketball season by playing each other in the Weston Jamboree.
Four games were on tap beginning with a junior varsity girls and boys game followed by the two varsity teams from each school squaring off in a shortened game of two 10 minutes halves.
While the final scores don’t count on the official record for the season, Quitman got a leg up on this years claim for Jackson Parish pride as both the varsity girls and boys came away with victories. In junior varsity action the Weston girls and the Quitman boys came away with wins.
Varsity Jamboree Results:
Quitman 54 Weston 27 (boys): The score was tied at 11 when the Wolverines went on a 20-1 roll to run away with the easy win.
Quitman 40 Weston 32 (girls): An 18-15 halftime lead grew to the 18 point final margin as Cali Deal, Anna Leach and Hallie Kate Pullig led the Lady Wolverines by scoring all but one basket made by Emma Walker. Anslee Aldy led Weston in scoring.
