Quitman High School won three straight games this past week to run their season record to 5-2, including taking two in the always competitive Fairview Tournament. The Wolverines completed the perfect week by hitting 56% of their field goals, including a strong 42% effort from the three point line, leading to scoring in the 70’s in all three games.
Leading the way was sharp shooting Gavyn Caskey who averaged 17.7 over the three games, paced by a 24 point effort against tournament host Fairview where he it 9 of 13 shots and went 4 for 8 from behind the arc. Noah Leach and Brayden Martin also came up big with both averaging in double digits over the three games at 13.7 and 12.7 points per game respectively.
Quitman 74 Saline 58 (Tuesday) The Wolverines found the Saline gymnasium to their liking as they hit 29 of 43 shots and a scorching 9 of 14 from the three point line to take their second straight Tuesday victory on the road. Noah Leach led the balanced attack with 17 points that saw four players reach double figures. Gavyn Caskey and Brayden Smith chipped in with 12 each and Taden Thomas added 11. Abel Leach added seven and Larson Thomas finished with five to round out the scoring.
Quitman 76 Fairview 57 (Friday) Once again the Wolverines had four players reach double figures in scoring led by Gavyn Caskey’s new season high 24 points to push past the tournament host. Brayden Martin added 14, Noah Leach scored 13 and Brayden Smith hit for 11 followed by Abel Leach with 8 points. Taden Thomas hit a three and Grant Williams also tallied three points.
Quitman 72 Bell City 46 (Saturday) The Wolverines spotted Bell City an 18-17 first quarter lead before taking over the game by outscoring their southwest Louisiana foe by 55-28 over the final three quarters. Gavyn Caskey led Quitman in scoring with 17 points followed closely by Brayden Martin who finished with 14. Noah Leach scored 11 and Taden Thomas tallied ten as Quitman placed four played in double figures in scoring for the third straight game. Brayden Smith and Abel Leach scored six each withAmaurion Asher Shultz and Thompson scored a basket each.
