Area high school track athletes turn in special performances on Thursday

Quitman High School won gold, silver or bronze in 23 events at the Castor Invitational

If the performances turned in by the track and field athletes from Jonesboro-Hodge, Quitman and Weston High Schools are any indication as to what is in store during the current track and field season, then you will want to make sure you are there to view the action.

Local “thinclads” from the three Jackson Parish Schools made podium appearances in in an outstanding 35 events at the Castor Invitational, which Quitman and Weston participated in and the Mac Fresh Market West Ouachita Relays where JHHS was at.

Leading the way was Quitman High School, whose girls squad took first in team competition over 12 other schools. The Lady Wolverines took 8 first place finishes, 3 seconds, and a third, along with having a slew of others who finished 4th – 6th to earn points. On the boys side it was Quitman’s long distance “triple threat” that stole the show with Gage Horton winning the 800 meters, Mathew Odom taking the 3200 meters and Joseph Horton not only winning the 1600 meters but setting a new meet record in the process. Additional gold medal winners from Quitman were Nathan Harvey in the 110 Hurdles and Asher Shultz in the Javelin. Nathin Wages won the High Jump for Weston as well.
