Rivalry Week! Weston hosts Quitman on Tuesday for District 1B baseball battle

Every season, there are two games that are immediately circled as soon as the schedule comes out. The coaches won’t admit it, saying it is just another game, and the players may try to downplay it as well, but in all truthfulness, everyone at Quitman and Weston High School look to see when they are going to play each other.

This is especially true in baseball competition over the past couple of seasons as both schools have enjoyed tremendous success rarely found at the same time as evidenced by Quitman winning the Division IV state championship last year and Weston reaching the semi-finals and this year being ranked #1 in Class B.

The first of the two Jackson Parish jousts will take place on Tuesday, March 25th, when the Wolverines venture to Weston for the key district 1B battle. Weston enters the contest with a 13-8 record while Quitman comes in at 9-10 overall. Both are 1-0 in district 1B play, putting even more emphasis on the game as the winner will take a giant leap forward toward winning the district 1B crown.

Friday Games

West Ouachita 7 Weston 6 (10 innings): With Weston trailing 6-2 after three innings, the Wolves scored four to tie the game in the top of the fourth that was settled only when Class 5A, West Ouachita, pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Bryce Zehr got the Wolves big inning started with a walk, followed by Colton Blundell coaxing a base on balls and Jacob Gill getting hit by a pitch two outs later to load the bases. J Borders then smashed a double to drive in two and Ty Henderson followed with single to bring the Wolves even. Weston took a 1-0  lead to open the game after Zehr singled and scored on a two out hit by Blundell.

Pitkin 7 Quitman 3 – Hudson Pullig homered on the first pitch he saw and Kace West and Maddox Duck scored on a Cail King single after smashing a double and reaching base on an error respectively to give Quitman a 3-0 lead but Pitkin methodically rallied to take the victory in the rematch of last springs Division IV semi-final contest. Zach Smudricks was the hard luck loser, despite only allowing two earned runs but falling victim to a season worst five Quitman errors.
