A determined rally on the second day of the LHSAA Division IV State Golf Tourney played at Cane Row Golf & Turf Club in New Iberia, by the “fab five” from Quitman High School never got the opportunity to reach fruition as play was called after nine holes due to a severe thunderstorm that produced heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and ping pong ball sized hail.
As a result, the Wolverines finished in 4th place in the team competition, moving up one spot from day one and frustrated about not getting the chance to capitalize on the second day’s best 172 team total fired over the front nine.
First day leader, Vermilion Catholic won the event, shortened to 27 holes with a two-day total of 517, three strokes better than Westminster Christian. Cedar Creek came in third with a score of 525, followed by Quitman, which checked in at 532, having reduced the 13-stroke deficit to Cedar Creek to just seven.
Individually, Noah Leach and Payton Nomey both carded a score of 130 over the 27 holes , which was good for a tie for 17th place. Grant Williams and Hudson Pullig turned in rounds of 135 and 137 respectively with Kase West rounding out the team effort with a 147 two day total.
