A Celebration of Life for Rodney Lane Treadway will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Beech Springs Baptist Church, located at 3942 Beech Springs Rd, Quitman, LA 71268. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Rodney passed away at the age of 52 in Dodson, LA. Born on March 7, 1973, Rodney was a good ole country boy through and through — hardworking, caring, and full of love for his family. He especially cherished his role as a father to his daughter, Kinsley Treadway, and his son, Rhett Lane Treadway, along with Rhett’s wife, Taylor Treadway.
He is survived by his father, James Marvin Box Jr. (and his wife Sheila Box), and siblings: Melinda Ann Delaughter (and her husband Richard Delaughter), Elton Mark, Jody Lynn (his favorite brother), Jama Louise Treadway Ashcraft (and her husband Anthony Ashcraft), Stacey Nicole Treadway, Rusty Box, Todd Box, Josh Box, and Jason Womack (brother from another mother).
Rodney was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Martha Louise Treadway and his beloved grandmother Jessie Mae.
A truck driver by trade and a provider by heart, Rodney was passionate about his work and took great pride in supporting those he loved. He was a man of the outdoors — happiest with a fishing pole in hand, behind the grill, hunting in the woods, or watching sports. He especially loved teaching his son, Lane, everything he knows about hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the simple things in life and wanted nothing more than to see his family happy.
Rodney grew up a jokester, always playing pranks and cracking witty remarks. He loved to joke around with people — in the most affectionate way. On a daily basis he would call to mess with and gossip with his favorite brother, Jody. But beneath the teasing and tough exterior was a man with a big heart, always ready to do anything for the ones he loved.
Rodney shared an extraordinary bond with his daughter, Kinsley — a connection so strong it was more like best friends than just father and daughter. He raised her from a young age, and the two were inseparable. They talked every day, played iPhone games together, made each other laugh with inside jokes and movie quotes, and had the kind of relationship built on love, trust, and deep understanding. Kinsley was the light of his life, and he loved her more than words could ever fully express.
His laughter, loyalty, and light-hearted spirit will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and laughter lives on in all who knew him.

The western portion of Industrial Drive in Jonesboro is still closed while repairs are being made to washout areas and low spots are resurfaced. The good news though is that it is hoped that it won’t be that way for long.
According to Jonesboro Mayor James “Spike” Harris, repair work is nearing completion, and provided weather permits, the road should be reopened all the way through by mid-week.
“We are almost through doing what needs to be done to make this road safe for travel again,” said Harris. “We are looking at having everything completed no later than Wednesday (May 21st), but that is also dependent on us getting good weather over the next few days. I would like to applaud our public works department for responding to the problems in such quick fashion and thank the public for their patience and understanding while repairs are being made.”
As a reminder, for those who work at the Jackson Parish Jail located on Gansville Road, or have the need to access the facility, please use the Gansville/Airport Road as an alternative route. Federal Prison workers can continue to access Industrial Drive without any changes.

On Thursday, May 14th, forty-six (46) seniors walked across the Jonesboro-Hodge High School Auditorium stage one final time, each celebrating their academic achievements and receiving his or her diploma, commemorating their graduation from high school.
“The class of 2025 will always hold a special place in my heart,” said JHHS Assistant Principal, Kris Cash. “From teaching them in 6th and 7th grade, to catching them again in Geometry and seeing all of their growth from an administrative standpoint, is something that I am extremely proud of.”
Cash continued to remember the years he spent with the young men and women while as their coach, teacher, and administrator.
“I think this class, for me anyway, will always be remembered for their resilience and their ability to adjust to any change that has been thrown at them, and they have seen a lot of changes over the years,” recalled Cash. “I say bravo and congratulations to all of these great people, and I am excited to see what God has in store for them down the road. The grind was worth it, and now it’s time to begin the grind for the next chapter.”

After having spent the past 10 years at neighboring Choudrant High School and very familiar with Quitman High, Cavin looks forward to taking over for former principal, Billy Carter, who will assume duties of Jackson Parish School Superintendent on July 1st.
“I’m excited to work alongside our amazing teachers, staff, families, and community to continue building something special,” said Cavin. “I can’t wait to get started and meet everyone. My door will always be open, and I look forward to working together to make this a fantastic year.”

Running to Daylight! Landon Boston (#24) sprints through a wide hold created by the Tigers offensive line
No score was kept, but at the end, the Jonesboro-Hodge High School football coaching staff had to feel like a victory was gained in the annual Spring Scrimmage, where the Tigers squared off against visiting Madison High Schoolon Friday.
The determination didn’t come as result of scoring more touchdowns than the opponent but rather the effort that the squad of Tigers gave, resulting in optimism being held for the 2025-26 LHSAA football season that will kickoff this fall.
“As we always expect, there were several things that we could have done better and will need to work on,” said JHHS head coach Terrance Blankenship. “Overall, though our staff was pleased with the effort given by the team and we are excited about what our possibilities are next fall.”
Played under a controlled format of having the first-string offense play against the opponent’s team defense for a set number of plays and then doing the same with each team’s second stringers, the Tigers looked crisp despite having only a few days of practice leading up to the contest.
“Although we are short on numbers again this year, we have a number of players returning who gained a tremendous amount of experience last year and for the most part they showed they were comfortable with their assignments,” said Blankenship.
This was especially true of returning quarterback Dakota Knox and running back Landon Boston on offense and linebacker Maurice Baker, all who drew praise for their play.
“We have good leadership on both sides of the ball,” commented Blankenship. “I dont know how the season ahead will play out, but I believe if the guys continue to work hard this summer we have the opportunity to be succesful this fall.”
Fumble! Tiger defensive players swarm to a loose ball

It is something that prep athletes in northeast Louisiana dream of, as only the elite few are even ever considered for the coveted honor. What is being referred to is being named an “Aaron’s Ace”, presented each week to a top-performing athlete in northeast Louisiana each week by award-winning sports broadcaster, Aaron Dietrich, of KNOE-TV, Channel 8, out of Monroe.
For almost all, to have Dietrich come to the school, do an interview that is aired on a TV-8 sports segment, and receive the much-desired “Aaron’s Ace” t-shirt, it represents a “once-in-a-lifetime” achievement.
For Quitman High School phenom, Cali Deal, being an “Aaron’s Ace” is nothing new. Actually, it has become somewhat of a springtime ritual for Dietrich to present the LSU signee who has led QHS to back-to-back LHSAA state softball championships with the award.
“What color shirt do you want this year,” deadpanned Dietrich, while conducting her interview this past Tuesday when he came to the campus of Quitman High School to present Deal with her third “Aaron’s Ace” award in the past three years.
To view the entire segment that was aired on Channel 8 Sport on Saturday, May 17th, click here.
Garrett Dietrich was named the recipient of the Jackson Parish Shooting Sports Scholarship
Congratulations go to five outstanding 2025 high school graduates from Jackson Parish who have been awarded scholarships through the Jackson Parish 4-H program.
A total of five scholarships in all were presented, with Garrett Dietrich being named the recipient of the Jackson Parish Shooting Sports Scholarship while Ethan Bradford from Jonesboro-Hodge High School, Alley Hines of Weston High School, and Jake Potts and Eliza Guin both from Quitman High School all were awarded with the Jackson Parish 4-H Foundation Scholarship.
“Jackson Parish 4-H will certainly miss these seniors as they head out to make their mark on the world,” said Jackson Parish 4-H Director Kristina Bourgeous. “These seniors have spent many an hour participating in 4-H activities from local to regional to statewide opportunities, and have seized every opportunity to make Jackson Parish 4-H proud.”
Over the past several weeks, young elementary to high school athletes all over Jackson Parish have been attempting to put their “best foot forward” in tryouts, hoping to earn a spot on their school’s athletic teams for the 2025-26 school year.
Below are the names of those selected to be on rosters for various sports next year. Congratulations to all who were chosen!

“We are very grateful for our partnership with United Way / Ready 4 Service. The purpose of Ready 4 Service is to provide students with opportunities and exposure to excel in student-of-the-year panel interviews. The year-long partnership began with a tour to Louisiana Tech University and multiple Zoom sessions on “Community Conversation” topics. Our students have gained a deeper knowledge of Louisiana’s history, legislation, and its powers, community issues/solutions, communication skills, and most importantly, self-confidence. We look forward to partnering with United Way next year.” – Ms. Copeland, J-HES Principal
It started for me long ago. My daddy always had a copy or two of the Big Three in outdoor magazines – Field and Stream, Sports Afield, or Outdoor Life lying around, and one of my early childhood pleasures was picking one up, flipping through the pages, and reading articles written by guys that became my heroes.
My favorite was Grits Gresham. I thought of him as a local guy since his hometown, Natchitoches, was only 40 miles or so from where I grew up. Grits would transport me in fantasy to far distance lands as he wrote about hunting wild game animals all the way from Colorado to the Congo.
Other favorite writers were those who majored in humor writing. Ed Zern, Charlie Dickey, and Pat McManus, et al would find me flipping to the back pages to chuckle at the brilliant way they handled humor.
Today, you’ll be hard-pressed to find actual print copies of these favorite magazines of mine. Take Outdoor Life, for instance. I checked online to see how this magazine is offered to readers today.
Here’s what I read…”Outdoor Life is a digital-only magazine covering hunting, fishing, camping, survival, and outdoor gear.”
Sports Afield? “Please click the link below to access your copy of the digital version.”
Field and Stream? They are giving it a shot at bringing back the print version of this popular magazine. “That’s right – print! We’re bringing back the magazine!”
Good luck with that
My interest has been drawn to a couple of online magazines that have emerged from the pack in recent years. Both Catfish NOW! And Crappie NOW! is edited by outdoor writer friends of mine. Keith “Catfish” Sutton heads the one on catfish, while Richard Simms is editor of the one targeting crappie anglers.
About Catfish NOW, in checking the website, I read the following: “…is a user-friendly web-based magazine and social media platform. Our goal is to entertain and educate catfish anglers at all skill levels and outdoors enthusiasts from all walks of life. Catfish NOW is FREE. A new issue is released around the 15th of each month. Readers can subscribe by using our subscribe button on the home page.”
Here’s what I learned about Crappie NOW. “An unequaled online-only crappie fishing magazine aimed at passionate crappie anglers from all skill levels. It is presented on a platform where readers can search for information on new crappie fishing tips, techniques, destinations, equipment, tackle, tournaments, and the latest news from industry-leading professionals.” This publication is also free and can be accessed by using the subscribe button on the home page.
You can subscribe to Outdoor Life and Sports Afield online, but you pay for the privilege. On the other hand, both the catfish and crappie magazines are entirely free and are financed by magazine sponsors.
I enjoy reading both of these free ones, and I can take them with me wherever I go; all I have to do is click a button and find out all I need to know about how to catch catfish and crappie. However, I have to admit that I miss sitting down and flipping through the pages of a magazine you can hold in your hands.
The times, folks, they are a-changing, aren’t they?

How is your perspective? The word is defined as “a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.”
There is a dog owner in the Gibsland metroplex who is very frustrated. The dog owner is in part-time possession of what is a very large juvenile dog. If I were a guessing individual, I would guess the dog is a Catahoula Cur. She is going to be a monster when she fills out. I know the other part-time owner of the dog is frustrated by this dog. She is an escape artist.
She has a collar, and I have seen and removed several items that were a lame attempt at keeping the dog in her yard. I say lame, because she comes to the house with various objects attached to her collar. She is stronger than the attempts to keep her in the yard. She is, at the same time, causing frustration and bringing joy.
She is living her life as a dog!
I have a bowl of dog food out for her. She shows up once in the morning and once in the evening to empty the bowl of dog food. She will follow me around the yard as I do my chores. I am hoping to teach her how to weed the garden.
She has met my other two canine denizens, and they have barked at each other in a hearty manner. I’m not sure of the emotions behind the barking, but I’ve decided to keep her away from them.
She does have an adorable habit. She is a leaner. The first time she walked up, she leaned against me while I gave her a little petting. She has continued leaning and the petting sessions have lengthened.
I’m glad to see her every day. But up the street, there is a dog lover likely saying bad words about the dog who has yet again escaped. The same dog is viewed with two perspectives.
We call it walking a mile in another person’s shoes. Whether saint or sinner, we are all in need of expanding our perspective, of trying to understand the other person’s perspective. Take a deep breath and try to “get where I’m coming from,” it might help you with something that happens today.
Jesus’ words about perspective are gracious. We are to go the extra mile, turn the other cheek, settle disputes quickly, and seek reconciliation when relationships are broken.
Remember, for one guy it is an escaped dog, for another guy it is a daily visitor that leans in to receiving the human touch.
