JHHS wins Class A Girls State Track and Field Championship, Gray named MVP

LHSAA Class A Girls Track and Field Champions!
Jonesboro-Hodge High School

Bolstered by Ciara Gray winning four gold medals, Jonesboro-Hodge High School claimed the 2025 LHSAA Class A Girls State Track and Field Championship, the schools’ first state championship ever won in girls competition.

The Lady Tigers scored 58 points to outdistance the 45 points scored by second-place Southern University Lab and the 42 points totaled by Highland Baptist Christian School in the competition that saw 29 “select” and “non-select” schools compete for the state title at the Bernie Moore Track and Field Complex on the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge.

“I speak for our entire coaching staff when I tell you how happy we are to be a part of this,” said an elated Tiger head track coach, Terrance Blankenship. “It is great to win state, but for this team to win the first-ever girls state championship for the school is HUGE.”

Quality over Quantity! JHHS brought only seven athletes to the state meet, with each playing a vital role in the championship effort. None more so than Gray, who gave the Lady Tigers 40 points by winning the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, the long jump, and triple jump.

Just as important to the grand scheme of things were the added points accrued in the 100-meter dash and both the 4×100 and 4×200 relay events. It was Zu’Wy’Nesha Johnson who scored six points by finishing in third place in the 100 meters and the combination of Johnson, Ric’Kiya Bryant, Ja”Khorielle Lard, Jaylenya Jackson, Lakayla McGuire and Sanaa Tatum that won third place for six points each in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays.

“Ciara turned in a special performance to say the least,” said Blankenship, “but we don’t win without the excellent effort given by all the girls. Everyone played their part, and I am extremely proud of the way they performed on the biggest stage.”

Generational Talent! Not only did Ciara Gray perform the incredible feat of winning two events in both the track portion and field portion of the meet, but she also set new Class A records in the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump to easily be the selection for the Class A Girls Most Valuable Performer award.

“Oh yeah, she is something special,” beamed JHHS head track coach Terrance Blankenship. “Athletes like this don’t come around very often, especially at a school our size, although I will say we have been blessed with some incredible girls track and field athletes in the past.”

Blankenship was referring to track phenoms, Clotee Cowans, who in 1980 won multiple events at state in the 100 and 200 meters and still holds the Jackson Parish record in the 100, 200 and 400 meters and Kaprecia “Shy” Cowans, who in 2017-18 twice won four gold medals at state, in the 100 and 200 meters, long jump and triple jump. Both went on to illustrious collegiate careers at Northeast Louisiana University (NLU), now known as the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM), and Louisiana University (UL) in Lafayette, formerly known as the University of Southwest Louisiana (USL), respectively.

“We have had some great ones to be sure,” continued Blankenship, “Clotee and Shy were two of the best in the state regardless of classification, but with Ciara being only a junior, she has the potential to be the best of all.”

Gray has now garnered an incredible 9 medals in state competition over her three years. Six of the medals are gold, adding first-place finishes in the triple jump and 300-meter hurdles in the 2024 state meet to the four she won this year. Gray also has two silver medals for placing second in the triple jump and 300-meter hurdles in 2023 and one bronze for her third-place finish in the long jump last year.

By winning four events and setting two new state records, Ciara Gray was named the Most Outstanding Girls Athlete in Class A

As overjoyed Blankenship was for himself to be the leader of the state champion-winning team, he was even happier for long-time coach Jo Ann (Jackson) Buckner, the matriarch of the present-day girls’ athletics program at Jonesboro-Hodge.

“Jo Ann started the girls basketball and track programs at JHHS in 1976 and has, for virtually every year since, been a mentor for nearly 50 years now,” recollected Blankenship. Her input and shared experiences have been invaluable to me as a coach and for the girls.”

Family Tradition! Just how much is Jo Ann (Jackson) Buckner fabriced into the JHHS track program? It is not only the over 50 years of experience of coaching track it is actually in the blood line. Three of the coaches on the girls track team, Sophia Jackson, Shan Jackson and Crystal Jackson are related to her. More incredibly is that five of the athletes Ciara Gray, Zu’Wy’ Nesha Johnson, Lakayly McGuire, Jaylenya Jackson, Ja’Khorielle Lard are kin to her as well.

“Jo Ann’s family has always succeeded in track and field going back to her days before she came to JHHS while at Chatham High and Jasper Henderson High where she and her family members won several state titles,” Blankenship continued. “it is in their whole family’s blood and it is a blessing for me to be surrounded around so much knowledge and experience. Heck, she has forgotten more about track that most people will ever learn. It’s truly a family tradition for them.”

Christian Mcguire accepts Scholarship from Tulane University

Christian Mcguire will attend Tulane University after receiving a scholarship worth $381K

Hard work pays dividends!

The evidence to this adage was proven this past week when Christian Mcguire, a JHHS upcoming graduating senior of the class of 2025, received and accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Tulane in New Orleans, LA. This is the second award Mcguire has received this spring, having also been awarded a scholarship to the university of his choice as a National Football Foundation Scholarship Winner.

The son of Cortez and Tyrhonda Mcguire of Jonesboro chose the Tulane scholarship offer of $380,100.00 over four other universities offering academic scholarships. Not only did McGuire receive a “full ride” academic scholarship from the state of Louisiana’s premier academic institution of higher learning, but he will also have the chance to run track and field for the Green Wave as well.

“I am very pleased to see Christian get rewarded for the work and effort he has given during his high school career,” said Jonesboro-Hodge head football and track coach Terrance Blankenship. “He is the kind of guy that every coach dreams of having. What he did on the field, track, and in the classroom is a great example for the athletes we have and the entire student body to follow. Speaking for the entire coaching staff, we wish him the best as he moves to this next stage and have full confidence he will succeed.”

Christian says he is very grateful to all who helped him secure his future through his academic and athletic success. He plans to major in Exercise Science while attending Tulane, participate in medical school, and become a Sports Medicine Doctor

Quitman falls to Hicks in Class B baseball quarterfinals

Quitman High School’s defense of the state championship won last spring ended in the 2025 LHSAA quarterfinals when homestanding Hicks upended the Wolverines by a 5-3 margin.

With the loss Quitman, seeded #5 in the Class B bracket ends their season with a 15-15 record in head coach Chris Womack’s first year at the helm while #4 seed Hicks improves to 17-10 and will play top seeded Pitkin in the state semifinals.

Hicks scored three in the first and another in the second before Quitman plated two runs in the fourth inning to narrow the deficit to 4-2. Both teams scored a run in the fifth inning for the final margin.

Conner Moak got the offensive going in the top of the third by hitting a single, advanced to second on Hudson Pullg’s ground ball to short that was ruled an error, stole third base and scored when the ball got away from the third baseman with Pullig advancing all the way to third on the play. Kace West then followed perfectly executed bunt single to plate Pullig. The Wolverines narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth when Pullig got hit by a pitch, advanced scored his second run of the game on back-to-back singles by Maddox Duck and Kace West, who led Quitman with two hits. Tucker Newton also chipped in with a double.

Mitchell, Fortenberry and Creech win 3-Man “Shamble” Tourney at JP Golf Course

3-Man Shamble Champions!
(l-r) Ridge Creech, Houston Fortenberry, Peyton Mitchell

The Jackson Parish Golf Course held their 3-Man “Shamble” tournament on Saturday, with Ridge Creech and Houston Fortenberry from Monroe, along with JPGC member Peyton Mitchell, shooting an impressive 17-under par round of 127 to take a five-stroke victory and garner the $1,200.00 first prize.

For those not familiar with a “Shamble” format, that is where each player tees off, and the team selects the best drive. Then, each team member plays their own ball from that position for their second shot, and plays the rest of the hole individually, with the two best scores on each hole counting towards the team’s overall score.

Earning $600.00 for their second-place finish in the championship round were Peyton Underwood, Zach Antley, and Rick Salter, with Brian Nugent, Steve Nugent and Drew Hozmeier coming in third and taking home the $300.00 team prize.

Also winning $1,200.00 was the team of John Odom Dale Cagnoleti and Jeff Laudenheimer who won the first flight on a score card playoff over second place finishers Ram Foster, Larry Foster and Todd Gentry and the three-man team of Johnny Cox, Todd Matney and Scooter Perot, all who shot a 144 over the Jackson Parish Golf Course layout.

DART Message: How Control and Manipulation Keep Victims Trapped

Domestic abuse is not always physical. Many abusers use psychological tactics to manipulate, control, and break down their victims, making it difficult for them to leave. These insidious forms of abuse often go undetected by outsiders, yet they leave deep emotional scars. Understanding these tactics is crucial to recognizing abuse and supporting survivors.

One of the most common psychological tactics abusers use is gaslighting, a form of manipulation where the abuser makes the victim doubt their own perceptions, memory, and sanity. This can include denying past events, twisting conversations, or dismissing the victim’s feelings as overreactions. Over time, the victim begins to question their own reality and may become entirely dependent on the abuser for a sense of truth.

Abusers often isolate their victims from friends, family, and outside influences. They may create conflicts between the victim and loved ones, monitor communications, or impose strict rules about whom the victim can interact with. By cutting off sources of emotional support, the abuser ensures the victim feels alone and powerless.
Many abusers exert financial control over their victims by restricting access to money, preventing them from working, or controlling every financial decision. Without financial independence, victims often feel trapped and unable to leave the abusive situation.

Abusers frequently shift blame onto their victims, convincing them that they are responsible for the abuser’s actions. They may claim that the victim “provoked” the abuse or that they “deserve” it due to their behavior. This tactic creates guilt and self-doubt, making it harder for the victim to recognize the abuse for what it is.
Verbal threats, destruction of property, and intimidation tactics are commonly used to maintain control. Abusers may threaten to harm the victim, their loved ones, or even themselves if the victim attempts to leave. These threats create a climate of fear that keeps the victim compliant and unable to seek help.

In the early stages of the relationship or after abusive incidents, abusers may engage in “love-bombing,” showering their victim with affection, apologies, and promises of change. This cycle of abuse followed by affection creates a psychological bond, making it difficult for the victim to break free. The unpredictability of the abuser’s behavior keeps the victim hopeful that things will improve.

Many abusers maintain a charismatic and charming public persona, making it hard for outsiders to believe the victim’s claims of abuse. This dual personality can cause the victim to feel isolated and unsupported, as friends, family, or even authorities may side with the abuser.

Recognizing these psychological tactics is the first step in breaking free from an abusive relationship. Support systems, counseling, and legal protections play a critical role in helping survivors regain their independence and rebuild their lives. Society must continue to educate individuals on these tactics to ensure that victims receive the support and validation they need.

Glynn Harris Outdoors and Fishing Report

Y’all may not be old enough to remember it but I still do. Hank Williams had a bunch of hits back in the day as his twangy voice sang all sorts of sad love songs, such as ‘I’m so Lonesome I could cry”, “Lovesick Blues”, “Mansion on the Hill”. But he had one that was a jumpy little ditty about taking his girl friend out for a date where they’d be, in the title of the song, “Settin the woods on fire.”

I saw on the news last week about a wildfire in New Jersey where a young man was arrested for doing just that to the forests in his state. He was guilty of “setting the woods on fire”, and I don’t think it was the same sort of fire that old Hank was singing about.

For someone to deliberately set fire to the woods because he has a grudge against a property owner or just has a screw loose and likes to see things burn, that’s some seriously bad stuff. However, there are some who set fire to the woods for a good cause; they’re professional foresters who know how to set a controlled or prescribed fire for the purpose of improving the habitat by removing dead underbrush and duff from the forest floor to allow tender plants that are desirable to grow in place of the no-good stuff.

Retired wildlife official, David Moreland had an article on controlled fire in a recent edition of LA Sportsman magazine that piqued my interest, so I read the article to get more information on the subject of prescribed fire.

Moreland wrote that even Native Americans learned how to use fire for clearing underbrush, opening pasture lands, providing nutrition-rich forage for deer, elk and bison

Historians today refer to this as “cultural burning”. They knew that fire would clear the grass and brush for villages and camp areas. They also knew that burning to open clearings in the forests would regenerate new plant growth that would attract animals they depended on for food and skins.

Prescribed burning is a tool regularly used by foresters and wildlife managers today. Referred to as “dormant season fires”, these fires can occur in fall and winter, the time when much of the vegetation is in a dormant condition. Prescribed fires done in spring are known as “growing season fires”.

Burning during the growing season comes with more challenges as this time of year is when deer fawns and turkey poults are being born.

Can just any property owner decide on his own to use controlled fire on his property? They can but should fire spread to adjoining property, the landowner may be liable for expenses should he be responsible for damage to timber on a neighbor’s land.

This is why, Moreland writes, “most forest landowners have a consulting forester to help them with their timber management needs.” The state has a program where individuals can become “certified prescribed burners”. This certification is done through the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, a certification that must be renewed every five years.

Certified prescribed burners know when conditions are best for fire and when a particular stand of timber needs to be controlled burned. Watching for weather conditions, wind speed and direction, humidity and ground moisture all figure into deciding the best time for a fire.

Should you have land that you are considering for a controlled fire, be sure to contact experts before you proceed so that you won’t be “setting the woods on fire” like Hank or doing like that kid in New Jersey.

Daily Devotional by Pam Ford Davis

Tick-Tock

We tend to build trust in someone by the way of increments. It takes time to build trust and that confidence is tested by time. Many have rushed into relationships only to discover trust has been misplaced and abused.

As a result people become cautious and distance themselves from future relationships. They could have avoided heartache if they had only taken more time to really know someone.

Tick-tock, tick-tock…

Do you remember the sound of wind up clocks? My grandparents had many mantle type clocks and the eerie sound of ticking made it hard for me to sleep at night. Clocks tell us the time; they don’t control it. God does.

Why delay? You can always trust Him; the LORD established time.

There was no tick-tock. God spoke.

“God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening and there was morning, one day (Genesis 1:5 NASB).”

The LORD is trustworthy. The more time you take getting to know Him, the more you trust Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB).”

Tick-tock…

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8 NASB).”

Evelyn (Moser) Baker
September 4, 1931 – May 2, 2025

Evelyn (Moser) Baker, age 93 of Quitman, made her Heavenly appointment on Friday, May 2, 2025. Evelyn was born in Jackson Parish on Friday, September 4, 1931 to the blessed union of Henry and Bessie (Anderson) Moser. She loved to keep busy and pass the time gardening and crocheting. She enjoyed getting out and looking for a good yard sale to explore. When it was game time she could be found watching football. She was a loyal Saints and LSU fan; through the good, the bad, and the ugly. She cheered them on through the good times and knew how they could have done better in the bad times. Evelyn also enjoyed attending Ansley Church until she could no longer drive. Evelyn’s heart belonged to her family. She loved her children dearly and treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When it came to her grand babies she ate, slept, and breathed just to spend time doting her love on them.

Those left to cherish her precious memory are her children, Robert L. Baker, Roy Baker and Kim, Ronda Baker, and special friends and family members, Donnie Edwards and Sally; grandchildren, Trey Blalock and Danielle, Jourdan Caskey, Ashton Masters and Ryan, Lauren Huddleston; great grandchildren, Klea Blalock, Kutter Blalock, Krewe Blalock, Kensley Caskey, Rylen Caskey, Remi Upshaw, Lily Upshaw, Tucker Masters, Haigen Fenn, Owen Stevenson, and Mason Huddleston, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Baker; great grandchildren, Starlin Blalock; parents, Henry Rufus and Bessie Lillian (Anderson) Moser; siblings, Cecil Culpepper, Willie Mae Moser, and Herman Moser.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 in the chapel of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home with Bro. Joey Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Ansley Cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.

Serving the family as pallbearers were Trey Blalock, Rylen Caskey, James McCullen, Ryan Masters, Remi Upshaw, and Gavin Musgrove.

Priscilla Ann Angelle
March 11, 1943 – May 2, 2025

Priscilla Ann Angelle, age 82 of Jonesboro was called to her Heavenly home on Friday, May 2, 2025. Priscilla was born on Thursday, March 11, 1943 in Arnaudville, Louisiana to the union of Essie Joseph and Marie (Noel) Angelle. Priscilla was a strong woman with a big heart. She worked as a prison guard and as a sheriff’s deputy for East Feliciana Parish. She also spent some time working for a bakery where she learned cake making skills and eventually used these talents to have a side business making cakes to order. Priscilla was proud of and loved her Cajun culture. She loved to show off her Cajun roots anyway she could. If she saw a t-shirt that was about being Cajun, she was going to have to add it to her collection and wear it proudly. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking up dishes such as gumbo and Etouffee for her family and friends.

Priscilla was a lady of many talents. She loved to bake, cook, to craft, do wood working, sewing, embroidering, quilting, jewelry making, hunting, fishing, crabbing, and deer hunting. If you met her she most likely was going to give you something before you left. She liked to gift new friends with pieces she had made and embroidered such and towels or aprons. When it came to deer hunting she loved to take her shot, but she usually was prepared just in case she missed. Priscilla would wear an old t-shirt when she hunted so that if she did miss the deer she did not get a good shirt torn. Priscilla enjoyed time with her family most of all. She loved her children and her nieces, nephews, and their children with all of the love her heart could muster.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Betty (Lachney) Womack and Darrell, Brenda (Lachney) Bryant and Cody; brother, Raymond Joseph Angelle and Margie Mae; brother in law, A.D. Stelly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Essie Joseph and Marie (Noel) Angelle; infant brother, Nelson Jospeh Angelle; siblings, Mercedes Angelle, Louis Benton Angelle, and twin sister, Patricia Ann Angelle Fontenot.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Bro. Chris Lee officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.

Eros Man Accused of Sex Crimes Involving a Child

Officers asks possible victims to come forward!

The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) arrested an Eros man on more than 20 counts of sexual crimes involving a child. Bradley Phillips was taken into custody after an April 2025 investigation into alleged solicitation of a minor for sex.

Per a report by the investigating officer, Phillips used several social media accounts to talk to the child while posing as an adult woman, using a fake account to introduce the child to his online profile.

CPSO said that not only did Phillips have extremely distasteful conversations with the child, but also forwarded sexually explicit photos of himself and asked for pictures in return.

Plans were made for Phillips and the child to meet on May 2nd, but it was CPSO deputies who awaited the accused, who was charged with two counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor, 22 counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, and one count of attempted felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone who may have fallen prey to Phillips call their local law enforcement or CPSO’s Special Victims Unit at (318) 437-0740 ext. 409.

Back-To-Back! Quitman Slams Stanley for Second Straight State Softall Title

Before the Class B state championship game was played at the North Frasch Softball Sports Complex on Sunday, May 5th, Quitman High fans could be heard repeatedly saying “Lets Do It Again”!

THEY DID! And in convincing fashion!

Not only did top-seeded, Quitman secure their second straight state softball championship when Karley Huckaby hit a “walk-off” single to put the finishing touches on the convincing 10-0 smashing of #2 Stanley, the Lady Wolverines made the unquestionable statement that they are to be remembered as the best “small school” program in the LHSAA over the past three years.

“I am so proud of the girls for the way they played today,” said QHS head coach Justin Dodson. “It is especially sweet the way the game played out as I have only two seniors and both played a big role in the victory.”

What Dodson was referring to was the total dominating effort in the circle by LSU signee Cali Deal, who allowed only two hits and struck out 12 while also smashing a three run homerun in the bottom of the first inning and the single by Karley Huckaby in the bottom of the sixth inning that gave Quitman the “walk off” victory.

DYNASTY! According to Wikipedia, the definition of a sports dynasty is a team or individual that dominates their sport or league for an extended length of time. As an example, it could added – See Quitman High School Softball from 2023-25.

Over the last three years, Quitman has won two state championships and came oh so close to claiming three titles in a row, coming up just short in 2023 when they fell 2-1 in nine innings to Converse. That was the only time during that span QHS has lost to a Division V / Class B school, with the Lady Wolverines winning 33 of their last 34 and 23 in a row.

Adding the back-to-back 30-win seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24, and the 21-10 record this year, the conglomerate record over the past three seasons is a sterling 81-20, for a better than 800% winning percentage. Half of those losses, including five this season, came when phenom pitcher, Cali Deal, wasn’t in the circle, and all ten of the other losses came against schools ranked in the top five of their respective divisions, including four state champions and four state runner-ups.

“I always try to reinforce to the girls that there is always only two results in a game,” said Dodson when asked about his team coming up short 10 times this year. “You either win or you learn something that will help you down the road. You never lose.”

THE REAL DEAL! While Quitman’s team’s fortunes are impressive to say the least, the championship game performance by LSU signee Cali Deal is simply mind-boggling. The lanky lefty struck out 10 while allowing only two meaningless singles over six innings. Twice, in the second and fifth innings, she struck out the side, and at one point retired 15 Stanley batters in a row. On offense Deal reached base in three of four at bats, including a three run homerun in the first inning while also scoring twice.

In the 2025 state tournament, Deal threw two complete games while striking out 22 in 13 innings and not allowing a single run. Incredibly, this was done while suffering from thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition where nerves or blood vessels in the area between the neck and shoulder are compressed, which she is scheduled to have surgery on in a couple of weeks. Add the fact that she also had no feeling in her arm, and it unquestionably verifies just how very special a talent Deal is. Over her six-year pitching career, Deal compiled a career record of 83 wins and 21 losses while striking out 1061 batters in 568.2 innings and having a 1.748 ERA.

When asked what it was like pitching with no feeling in her throwing arm, Deal stated, “I relied on muscle memory for the most part while concentrating on throwing strikes and trusting my teammates to make the plays, which they did.”

Mission Accomplished!

BATTING BONANZA! Never before has a player from Jackson Parish compiled such gaudy offensive power statistics as Louisiana Tech signee Maggie Guyotte, who in the state title game continued to provide the punch with two doubles, 4 RBI, and scoring two runs. Only a junior, the sensational slugger already owns the Jackson Parish record for most home runs in a career with 58 and in a single season, when in her freshman season, she knocked 21 out of the park. She has also recorded 54 doubles in her career and is now the only player in Jackson Parish history to be in the “200 – 200” club, having accrued 213 RBI and 201 runs scored in her career.

The best part is she still has a year to play!

YOUNG GUNS! Even when Deal and Guyotte move on to continue their softball career on the collegiate level, Quitman will still be loaded with a number of players. This season, six freshmen and two sophomores played important roles during the entire season. If they continue to provide the kind of production they have accounted for in their first or second season of varsity competition have the opportunity to make their own historic statement.

Hallie Kate Pullig – The fantastic freshman has proven in the two years of playing varsity softball that the bigger the game, the better she plays. In the title game this year, Pullig smashed a triple, knocked in two, and scored a run. This is after being only in the 8th grade, Pullig ripped Stanley pitching in the 2024 title game to the tune of two doubles and five RBI on her way to being named the game’s Most Outstanding Player.

Zoee Williams – Bursting onto the scene in 2025 after playing sparingly last year, the Sophomore made her presence felt by compiling a .394 batting average, scoring 18 times, and knocking in 33 runs to become a valuable offensive threat.

Kinsley Ponder – Stepped out of the gate in her first season as a varsity player by getting hits in her first four games and compiling a six-game streak down the stretch. Showing tremendous plate awareness, Ponder struck out only 5 times all season while ending the year with a .370 batting average.

Anna Leach – On a team loaded with power, Leach provided the speed when in need, leading the team with 10 steals. Another who has the knack of stepping up in pressure situations, in the two state tournament games, the Sophomore got three hits in five official at-bats and scored twice in the finals.

Brenna Lamkin – Got two hits in both the semifinal and final contests, her third straight two-hit performance in the playoffs. Had 21 RBI and scored 18 runs over the season, but was most valuable in the circle where the freshman started 8 games for QHS and compiled a 4-4 record and struck out 45 in 50 innings.

Briley Bowers – Singled in both state tourney games and got at least one hit in every playoff game, including a 3/3 performance with a double and an RBI in the regionals to extend her season-ending five-game hitting streak.

Breelyn Boone – The freshman speedster scored 21 runs, including two in the semifinal contest, while being primarily used as a pinch runner and also swiped four bases over the season. Showed a keen eye when in her only plate appearance this season drew a walk.

Avery Watson – Didn’t make a playoff appearance but closed out the regular season by getting hits in three straight games, including a double. Scored six runs and had an RBI in part-time action.

Addison Fenn – One of only three juniors on the team, Fenn appeared in two games this season and had only two at-bats. Showed her readiness by knocking in a run when she got her opportunity.

Rylee Kelley – Another junior, Kelley played in only one game this year but showed great enthusiasm and was the ultimate team player.

State Champions – Again!
